Hmmm…. I suspect Miral is going to talk to someone when
they get back home, but like I said before, I’m guessing 1/3
of the income from that is going into a retirement fund for her.
Surprise! Heh…
Poor Seb, going to Catia to help the Romani start a vineyard,
leaving a young friend in charge of his hobby, comes home
the owner of a major brewery… Oh you poor man! Plus you
have a built-in manager to run it for you! How will you cope?
😛
Why would you assume that whomever is publishing the Miral graphic
novels without her position is putting back any part of it for her?
After all they’re using her name, likeness and adventures entirely
without her permission. That’s wrong. Anybody smart enough to put
such an operation together would have to know they needed to get
Miral’s permission. While the creator could have written about a
fictitious Cat, using Miral’s name and recognizable likeness would
greatly increase the likelihood of success. I hope Miral sues the
publisher when she gets home.
After all she has a kitten to think about, too.
Okay, now I’m gonna comment on the graphic novels question.
It’s possible that someone other than the empire is behind the
graphic novels. And has been shipping them out of Jerico, but not
within Jerico. So that could be a world of hurt coming to someone
now that she’s found out.
It’s also possible it is the empire, in which case there could still
be some ramifications, since yes, she should have been told.
Since the books are coming from Jerico,
I wonder if she’s going to discover she
has a huge account she didn’t know about,
filled with royalties from the books.
Here’s my thinking. We know the Empire jealously guards the concept
of private property. And if a person doesn’t own their own story,
what do they own? And I seem to recall (but I may be mistaken) that
the Empire collects tariffs on exports and imports to any non-member
state. If these books are being produced in the Empire, tariffs
should be getting paid, and owners (Miral) should be getting paid,
in spite of the no-doubt magnificent propaganda value of the stories.
I could even imagine the Empire subsidizing at least the start-up of
such a publisher, much as they subsidized the start-up of the
production company making the TV shows.
But should Miral not have been consulted first? Irrespective of the
comic creator’s motive and what (if anything) they’re paying it was
wrong not to approach Miral prior to launching the comics. What if
she didn’t want her life splayed across a series of graphic novels.
And for the record what King did back in the beginning was wrong,
too. That, as Emperor, he had to power to do it is irrelevant.
He still should have consulted the Wolf Pack first. Benevolent
motives do not excuse immoral conduct! In Miral’s case the creator
of the comic was wrong to use her name and likeness without her
express permission. Any Jericho officials who are complicit are just
as much in the wrong. Also, why would there be tariffs on products
sold within the Kingdom?
Actually they are. The town they’re visiting is in the Kingdom of
Jericho, hence the visit. It’s just well away from the confines of
Jericho city. Per Jonathan (TGW-1218) they were to be “travelling
the newly annexed northern territories . . . showing the flag,
teaching the new citizens about the Empire . . . and finding out
what their most pressing needs are.” So far as I know the Empire
only annexes territory in kingdoms. Jericho and Nepal are the only
kingdoms I know of on Terra so by default the places they’re
visiting are part of the Kingdom of Jericho and thus no internal
customs/tariffs. So no protection for Miral.
Not getting into the discussion of right/wrong/tariffs/retirement/etc.,
just commenting on the kingdoms. There’s also Romania and
the one in South America, where they’re getting their coffee from.
No name provided for that one that I recall.
The wolf pack didn’t like it, but understood the reasons.
I’m sure it’ll be the same with Miral, once she finds out.
It’s not like she has much downtime for talks, and she’s
pretty outgoing and as long as it’s not anything like
slavery, wouldn’t care, sure it’s nice to be asked, but I
have a hunch she would drag her feet on it. 1/3rd to
devs and producers, 1/3rd for the Empire’s needs, the
rest going towards Miral’s retirement, which is much
closer than it would be for a Terrain.
Right you are. I didn’t remember that,
but looking back, I see what you’re talking about.
I sincerely hope Miral has been, or will be,
treated properly.
I seem to vaguely remember her being an example
to all Catian and Terrains having been discussed
with her. While not EXPLICITLY stated, things
like this were implied in the discussion.
I could be wrong on this, PC, could you confirm,
one way or another?
It was between Spike and Viktor Borogrov: http://thegentlewolf.net/comic/tgw-230/
Through TGW-233.
Miral has always known that she was the representation
of Catians in the early days of the Empire.
Forced her to grow up.

I think it’s time for Seb to form two divisions of his
company (does it have a name?).
One division on Earth, with Kristy in full control and a
salary to match.
One division on Catia, with Seb in charge of the
vineyard and training the cats…. and (almost) retired.
A gentleman farmer. When Seb finally fully retires (or
dies first, most likely) hopefully he’ll have an appointed
line of secession to take over the Catia vineyard and
fall under Kristy’s management.
I would say yes to the divisions, Seb likes to make wine as a hobby,
Kristy seems to have a good nose for business, so him running the
business on Catia would make perfect sense, and it seems to be a
nice place to retire. I’m sure there’s a Cat that would be willing to
take over when it’s time, they all pretty much love a good challenge.
Wow. I don’t like to comment on the art because I am ignorant of
the tools used, and I don’t know how much is the automatic quality

because they have done it twice (at least) before..
they did it to “The Wolf Pack” an Nat & steel..
the Emperor admits it in TGW-118..

The “Wolf Pack” wasn’t consulted.
The TV shows were a surprise to them,
remember?
As to the tariffs,
the riders are not in the Kingdom
or the Empire right now.

That should have been Catian and Terrans.

I left out that this discussion was when
she was being offered pilot training.
