Looks like the fertilizer is in the process of impacting
the wind machine! Does the Empire know that the core
(or at least the shitbats) is gearing up for war? Drat!
Now we have to wait 3 more days for the next ep to
drop.
It’s sounding more like there was some “creative” bookkeeping involved,
but all things considered, it was for the best. Julia is just the first student
to pick up on it.
Wow, they are really planning something big, maybe shifting the fleets to
an unsettled system as a staging area? Or multiple ones so they can hit
Catia from all the WHs at once? I love the fact that the Shitbat was
complaining about no one got Earth’s location, there’s a reason for that….
The only other tactic I can think of is they are going to hit each new
Imperial member world at once. If so they might try to use the older
ships to do it, thinking none of the members can handle it, and then
turn to Catia with the new fleet. Which is a bad idea, the Empire started
building them up from the get-go! Either way, a shit-storm is going to
hit Xanadu REAL quick! “We can handle the council” Not this time!
Most likely they’re going to surprise Catia flying directly, not
through wormholes. FTL fleet is probably supposed to take
down WH defenders to let the rest of the invasion force go
through. So maybe FTL is that new technology, not used
widely before because it was not needed.
And, as always the Cat (doubtless with a smug grin on his face) sayeth nothing.
One thought on non-WHJ based FTL: Unless it allows for FTL maneuvering in
system once the Imperial forces recover from the initial surprise things will not
necessarily all be in the attackers’ favor. In any case things are likely to get bloody.
It IS beginning to look more likely. That “star map of the system” does sound like
a map of the night sky, which would let them find where Catia is in real space.
PC has said the maps everyone uses normally are diagrams of wormhole connections.
(Think of marshmallows and toothpicks where the toothpicks are the wormholes.)
Tells you nothing of how the marshmallows relate in real space. I should say it will
let them find where a system is as long as there are two or three known systems
in the same galaxy. We have no idea how widespread the known systems are
in real space.
Trying to surprise.
The thing is they heard the rumor that the Core Worlds might have
another FTL system that doesn’t need Wormholes.
That would allow the Empire to adapt and change Catia’s defenses
completely and even upgrade them to deal with a threat that could
leave FTL close to them.
Here the Core Worlds inexperience might hurt them the most. Not
realizing how outdated their information could be.
And depending on the outcome they might have let themselves wide
open for a counterattack.
I’d say that it’s a sure thing the Empire changed the defenses of
Catia. In what ways and if it’s effective we will have to wait and see.
ok ok,, throwing out the “STAR TREK” FTL speeds..
which were hand waving magic and “TECH”..
even with WH it takes time to get from A to B (weeks to some worlds..)
a ship at the speed of light would take years to get to the next system..
quoting “Neil deGrasse Tyson”. “Space is made up of space, Lots and lots
of Space.!” “Example: If the world was the size of 12″ school globe. how
far is the moon away? .. 30 feet. how about Mars? .. 3 MILES.!”
“The next closest system, at the speed of light, is seven years away.!”
oh yes… what about the ” Time Paradox ” while speeding up?? (or down)
And of the time dilation of going FTL .? you would get there years after,,
(century’s?) or maybe years before you left.!
Warp drive for ST was to avoid the time issue, the theory is that the gravity bubble
would cause the space around you to fold, moving you closer to your destination
at great “speed” without actually moving.
The impulse drive was for interplanetary movement, while could reach light speed,
would take a while and cause the time dilation issue to pop up. Many times in every
series they have the ops man check the “time” from star fleet in case their clocks
were off.
My money (if FTL does exist) is on a portable WH generator, maybe recovered tech
from a race long gone (like the one’s that created the system in the first place) or
just some people that focused on the existing ones and figured it out, would make
more sense in this universe. Costly to use and maintain so mothballing them in
“peace time” but kept just in case.
Here’s a thought, what if what they call an FTL drive is just being able to “move”
a gate to another location, and then using the new location to attack? That would
make the gate suddenly change locations so the ships guarding it were too far
away to attack, and limit any movement out of the system to call for help. If Earth’s
gate, say was by the orbits if Saturn and Jupiter, suddenly moved to outside of
Pluto’s orbit and on the far side of the sun, that would be very bad for the friendlies…
Everything depends on the way FTL drive works here.
In Star Wars you could travel across the whole galaxy in less than a day.
And FTL could reduce inter system travel times tremendously.
What takes time when traveling in the Gentle Wolf universe is moving
from one WH to another.
So FTL can allow to cover great distances in any arbitrary time.
From instantaneous “jumping” from any point to any point to being
limited to X times speed of light,
and X can be any number greater than 1. Many SF universes require a ship
to be far from any big masses before FTL drive can be used, others have
no such limits.
I have seen a series of novels, where using star drive required a ship
to be very close to a big mass, usually to be inside a star atmosphere
(The Jao Empire series by Eric Flint)
Our cat is FINALLY out of heat… So she’s back to playing/eating my
wife’s oxy hoses and my fingers… sigh… So I have a water sprayer
loaded and at ready, I had to laugh, the first time I used it she
jumped, flipped, and kept looking around for whatever “got” her heh.
You guys would love to see a video of her laser pointer play time,
I’ll run it on the ceiling and she keeps trying to jump up to get it,
“I believe I can fly, I believe I can touch to sky!” HAH!
Is Julie the new head of Intelligence?
She seems to be doing very well.
What kind of intrigue is going on
with Capt Fling’s world?
PS I like the look on Kimi’s face in panel four.
And Missy’s eyes from panel 2 to 3 and 4. She’s really giving
Julie some serious side-eye.

I’m not sure the bats give two farts for what the

The guy who runs TWC must be coming up in the world. I see
Daz is advertising there now.
If they keep buying ads, they’ll probably end up in
the top ten without even having a webcomic.
