Rob, could you find me an episode (or episodes) which show
spacecraft with docking ports visible? PC wants docking
ports on the freighter and I have no idea what one looks
like.
Bill, I’ve been trying to find the page where Ilona is showing Grand
Admiral Borogrov her new Admiral’s gig, with no luck so far. It has
the standard vertical walk-through docking port on the side, as in the
illustration of the Wyvern class under “Characters”, right in front of
the crewman I added for scale. Come to think of it, he will give you
some idea of the scale of the missile turrets and the plasma cannon.
If I recall, Chirk told Mustache that the turrets launched 100mm (4 inch)
missiles and the plasma cannon have a 25mm (1 inch) aperture.
The ports on the Pride are crawl-through tubes for the crew of the
fighters to enter their craft.
I would have to completely re-execute the cannons to get the
orifice down that small. If it is okay I’m gonna go with the 50%
scaling on the plasma turret. I have to look at the missile
turret to see what size I did the barrel. If necessary that will
be easy to re-execute. The missile turret is a very simple
shape. The plasma cannon assembly is easily the most complex
shape I have ever done. The turret itself was a good 10 hours’
work. The plasma cannons took 6 hours or better. I had to do
some serious imagineering on it. I probably restarted the turret
3 times before I got it going in the direction I wanted.
Catman? I measured the missile turret and as I modeled it
(i.e. sand scale) the missile tube is 2 ft diameter. I scaled
the whole turret by 50% so the tube is now 1 ft in diameter
but if I go much smaller then the proportions just go to shit.
Here’s a render: https://www.deviantart.com/bmullins3/art/Missile-Turret-Scaled-997986131
Sorry, I should have given you dimensions before you started.
But there’s no need for such heavy weapons on a freighter. I
mean, look at the size of the plasma cannon on the tobies –
those are 25mm.
{Sigh} Okay. I’ll have to redo the cannons from scratch. I do
Need dimensions. I did my best from looking at the pix you
sent. At least I won’t have to figure out how to do it this time.
Tomorrow I gotta go back and seriously torture some
electrons.
Oh and getting down to a scale 25mm is gonna mean I
have to work at a different scale. I’ve been using 1 grid
unit as 1 foot but below .25 units (3″ at the scale I like
to work at. Unfortunately the ultimate scale factor to
send a model to you is a prime number. So once i get
a model ready to send I’ll have to scale it down THEN
up. Fun and games. For the record I’ve never had an
opportunity to examine a Toby either.
The turrets on the Toby are TINY! In fact they are less than
half (more like 1/3rd) of the turrets on the Wyvern. Turrets
the size of the ones on the Toby would barely be visible
on the crew cab. That thing is larger in diameter than your
Wyvern. Compared to the little red question mark on the top
of the Wyvern, the turrets look to be about the size of my
50% version. Turrets the size of those on the Tobies would
get lost on the crew cab. How about I send you a model of
the crew cab with missile and plasma turrets and you see
how they render?
Thank you for the link, Rob, but those turrets are so tiny
they’re positively microscopic. The turrets on the Wyvern
are easily 3x that size. I’m going to redo the plasma cannons
from scratch. Mine are a tad fat. I’ll keep the turret mechanism
since it is easily scalable and has ample detail.
I like the quad turret for the freighter, something heavy for point-defense
at the bow and stern with the smaller ones down the length of the container’s
framework. It’s a bit much, I agree but something as slow and lumbering
as this ship needs to be packing something strong in case anything gets
past the guard ships.
I figured as much, get rid of the left-wing garbage and teach the kids right.
I can see why Barnwell have the best stuff for the kids too, none of that
crap like I seen in my school, dropped extra-curricular activities, lowered
budget for everything but the athletics, piss-poor teachers that was there
for a paycheck only…
I swear, if that man was any more clueless, he would of been in that movie…
His brain is as empty as that glass and bottle!
I’m sure there’s going to be more than those 4 ships coming if the are bringing
trainers and teachers. The Pride? Taritha did say she was coming back.
The basic idea is to first teach the students how to think,
and then provide the information they need to decide for
themselves what to think.
Complete information, no one gets shouted down for having
an opposing view. Although they might not find much of an
audience if they want to espouse an idea that is provably
wrong, such as flat-earthers.
My pet peeve was they taught what to think, not how to think.
Changed history “to protect our minds” and who to blame for
everything. You’d be shocked how many people think that
Abraham Lincoln was a dem, or which side were the slavers…
There was a poll taken on the street by a YouTuber asking those
questions and almost NOBODY got it right… It’s been taken
down btw…
I noticed that right away, as soon as I seen her behind those clowns,
I knew she was going to act like a cat jumping and climbing all over
every thing/one like a cat in a mouse ridden room! I do get what you
mean though, you KNOW she’s going to get each and every one of them.
Our rescued cat has really started to come around, she’s even climbing
into my lap (and my keyboard) for pets and sleeping on our bed. Jasmine
has gone from a very scared cat to a typical annoying attention hog heh.
(Wife named her, I was happy with cat or kitty 🙂 )
Rob, I posted renders of the plasma cannon at different scales
but when I tried to publish it the comment came up with an error
message, “Your comment is awaiting moderation.”
Will you fix it for me?
“…..without interference from this board.”
Which makes this school board superfluous and redundant,
as useless as tits on a boarhog.
Which means that, in order to save money,
all the school board pay is cut to ZERO!
Which means that, unless you’re willing to work “pro bono”,
or be assigned to another job (janitor?), a’y’all are dismissed.
Now I’m wondering if Jonathon has enough clout and control to zero
out the school board’s retirement, severance,
and “golden (lead) parachutes”.
I get the impression Jonathan will have full autonomy and control
in Barnwell, but the other schools in the district having to cut back
to make up for Barnwell getting more money than any of them and
having to accept any students, faculty and staff Jonathan wants
rid of will still be “managed” by the board.
Had an idea for system defense. Assuming wormhole junctions
are always located well away from the primary, you could put
defensive positions inward. I’m thinking putting big, very power-
ful grav emitters well anchored to fair sized – megaton or
greater – sized asteroids spaced out through the system’s
asteroid belts. When an enemy came through the WHJ the
asteroid’s grav emitter would latch onto the incoming
hostile ship. It would be like tossing an anchor overboard
while under full power. Even if the enemy ship survived
(not necessarily a high likelihood) it would be severely
hampered in mobility. Plus it would mean a zone of high
gravity in one part of the ship. Plus the rock would
impact the ship sooner or later with interesting results.
What do you think?

panel 6 is the best / closest.

Panel 6 is a clear shot of the empty ring as well.

Clear side view of a Toby, panel 8:

what about panels 7 & 8 ?

Here are renders of the plasma cannon turret at
different scales. The first is as I originally modeled
it just trying to reproduce the shape from some
renderings PC sent me:
https://www.deviantart.com/bmullins3/art/Plasma-turret-997144973
This is the turret scaled down 25%:
https://www.deviantart.com/bmullins3/art/Plasma-Turret-75-997729039
This is at 50% of originally modeled:
https://www.deviantart.com/bmullins3/art/Plasma-Turret-50-997729693
This last is a just-for-fun, what-if exercise. It’s a full
size turret with quad cannons. This would be the
armament on a capital ship or a defensive station:
https://www.deviantart.com/bmullins3/art/Quad-Cannon-997767149
From PC’s remarks I suspect he’ll prefer the 50%
scaling. I rather prefer the 75%. Tell me what you
all think.
I like the quad turret for the freighter, something heavy for point-defense
at the bow and stern with the smaller ones down the length of the container’s
framework. It’s a bit much, I agree but something as slow and lumbering
as this ship needs to be packing something strong in case anything gets

The quad turret would be wildly out of place on the freighter. I could
see it on a defensive station orbiting Terra or Catia.
I figured as much, get rid of the left-wing garbage and teach the kids right.
I can see why Barnwell have the best stuff for the kids too, none of that

I never noticed what a perfect sense of presence Chira had in frame one.

Jan,
I’m sorry if it seemed like I was hollering at you yesterday.
I really just wanted to explain why I did what I did the way I did.
Had an idea for system defense. Assuming wormhole junctions
are always located well away from the primary, you could put
defensive positions inward. I’m thinking putting big, very power-

What do you think?
I like it, it’s a better idea than my “guard drones” and requires less maintenance.
Why should King Jon bother carrying a communicator,
when there are such nice messengers as yourself to
keep him updated :}
Plus they run like the wind so what would exhaust
a Terran is an easy jog for the Laooridae.
Jon just has to get used to the idea.
