Good, Glass seems like the sort to keep those in check, I’m surprised they didn’t run
away when the laws began to change! They won’t last long, those types never do.
Some people never get it when their “freedom” of “choice” is taken away to protect
    the innocent.

Capt. Chardis is going to get a double ear-full shortly, and Taritha is going to be VERY
excited went she hears about the Laporidae! Another forgotten race left to rot if or
until they figured out space flight? A race that clearly has potential and only needs
minimal help to recover from the core’s abuse. I can’t wait to see how the meetings
got with the Prime, Kima and Marise, and Taritha.
(HEF! Get back in your grave damnit! Let your daughter handle the hiring! jeez…)

Toby 2 could fly over to the Pride close enough to use a laser to fill them in and
where to land safely. Both the Sparrow and the P’teran ship are on low power
so the Pride would have to go into very low orbit to find them, the ships would
be hard to detect until then.

I’m sure Cissy has been talking to Cherry about it, I seen more than I ever wanted
when I was a janitor at that “hotel”. Most times I wished I had a Hazmat suit.

The question is who is in control of the Pride? If she was captured, the two
unknowns could be enemies waiting for the Pride to flush someone out.
So they handle it carefully as they are in no position for a fight.

Sure, it is unlikely, but then again, their lives are on the line and it might
impact an entire planet While the latter is also unlikely, why take the risk?
But taking over enemy ships was what they did with the Lamian fleet
      back when they freed Catia.

Now, if the Pride’s escorts identified themselves this could be cleared up
quickly, but they are also careful as they just jumped into a relatively
fresh battlefield with at least some Core Worlds after her technology.

        Exactly right. Caution.
Two thing in the Pride’s favor, though:
        1) Captain Chardis’ immediate reaction to the news that there is a
lone fighter craft with limited life support in the system, and:
        2) Because their mouths weren’t really designed for speech, the Cats
have a very strong, Gaelic accent that it would be difficult to mimic.

Until there is a method for live comms over great distances they
should setup a standard confirmation code to prove they are who
they say they are, that was SOP during many of the wars over the
years. authentication sign I believe it’s called.

According to a German news platform, some parents in Florida
successfully sued McDonalds for $800k because their daughter
burnt herself on a “too hot” Chicken McNugget.

      July 21, 2023, 09:01 | # | Reply

Yep. They hit the jackpot for a second-degree burn the size of a McNugget.
      That’s blisters.
If I were on the jury, the injured child would get her medical bills
covered, a big stuffed animal of her choice, and a $10,000 trust fund
that only she could deplete… Once she’d turned 21. Maybe a free Happy
Meal every month until she was 18, I dunno. Parents would get
gas money for their trouble. It’s past time to end the Lawsuit Lottery.

Not the worst frivolous lawsuit – not by far, have a look at this one for
        comparison: https://what-if.xkcd.com/96/

          July 21, 2023, 12:41 | # | Reply

I would not call it a frivolous lawsuit.
          A. Always sue for more than you are willing to settle.
          B. Any restaurant that serves food so hot it burns people
          should get there butt kick.
          C. If the McD’s “system” is so designed that this is likely to happen
then the company is negligent in its design.

On the other hand, some awards are out of proportion to the injury.
They are often given by a jury of peers and driven by lawyers that
          are payed on a percentage.

The amount in second lawsuit I referenced is so ridiculously insane,
that the whole population of planet Earth could never pay it of, even
if they literally worked 24×7 until the sun went out.

I just saw a dandy Latin motto that I think would make a nifty
    T-shirt with the appropriate graphic.
“Cogito, ergo armatus sum.” “I think, therefore, I am armed.”

    What do you guys think?

Specifically: in my many decades of live I’ve never once been in a
situation that might have played out better if I had had a weapon.

But there’s been a few times where the situation would’ve been
much much worse if ANYBODY involved had had one.

Yet history is full of examples of situations where if people had
possessed firearms and been willing to use them, that situation
would have played out much better.

Just talking about my personal experience.

But yeah. Troja would have one that war if they only head
            one single MG.

personal experience: i have 9 firearm incidents (1 fatal).
without that ‘firearm’ there would be 20 people,
raped, robbed, shot, stabbed, and murdered.
oh and one ‘beat to death’. as it was, she was still in a
            coma for 4 months..

In Brazil, as more citizens have been
          able to legally possess firearms,
their homicide rate has gone down.
“Experts” can’t seem to figure out why.

While I’ve fortunately never been in a situation where I NEEDED a
firearm, i.e. needed it and had to use it, I have had situations
forced upon me where I was glad I had it, even though the situation
resolved itself in such a way that I didn’t have to use it.

The situation that comes first to mind that could have gone totally the
opposite direction, was when I responded to a knock on my apartment door,
expecting a neighbor. What I opened the door to was two partially
inebriated men who forced their way into my apartment. I tried to push
them out, telling them they didn’t belong here. One grabbed both my wrists.
I rolled into his thumbs to break his grip, but he had a tight enough grip
that my watch band broke and cut me. I stepped back, while they looked
around for a few seconds. I had already decided that if they took one more
step that I would jump back and run down the hallway. My bedroom door was
at the end of the short hallway, and I could clear the bed with one jump.
At the time I kept a handgun under my mattress. If they followed I would
have had no choice but to use it.

Fortunately, he and his buddy realized that I had books on the bookshelf
in the entryway, whereas they were expecting to see booze bottles, which
is what my next door neighbor had. Yep. They got the wrong apartment.
A fight broke out shortly after they left and went next door, when they
found some other guy at the woman’s apartment. She was apparently the
girlfriend of the guy who accosted me. Even though she was actually
married to yet someone else. Yeah, it had been a nice neighborhood when
I moved in. Oh, one other thing. The cop who showed up to break up the
fight told me the guy who grabbed me was a semi-pro boxer.

Scary, what could have happened. Still glad I had the gun, even though I
didn’t have to use it. That was 42 years ago. I’m not nearly as young,
and was never fit enough to fight. I know that evil exists. I’ll keep
my guns, thank you very much.

Boxers are trained with too many rules, I never did! If someone grabs your wrists
like that, rolling helps but in one fluid motion continue that until you circle his wrists,
then palm both your hands into his chest as hard as you can. Then run, they are
both off-balance for precious seconds, giving you more time to react. I always keep
a rifle or a b-ball bat near the door. I grew up in the Gary area, you NEVER open
the door without checking first. You were VERY lucky!

Yeppers, I was. I was just so shocked, I did good to break his grip, and
              create distance.

With this house, my wife and I never even answer the door directly.
Upon hearing a knock, we open the bathroom window three feet to
the left of the front door and inquire as to who is there and what do
they want. Unless we saw them coming through a back bedroom
window, that is, and just want them to go away.

You’d be surprised how much thought goes into the
decision to legally purchase and carry a firearm.

Heh, I didn’t make that decision, my son did, just out of the blue he
took me to a shop and picked out a small 9 mm, I bought the .22LR
after my close call with the coyotes. I always felt like hand guns were
lazy cheating, be a man and put ’em up was my ideal way. But times
          change.

I was taught the same thing, my training, my will to survive, and my desire to help
other’s makes me dangerous to those who hurt others. Not as much as I once was,
but I WILL stop someone if I need too.
