Well, he did tell her in strip 1092 that his sister would love her.

Panel 4 is super sweet. Kudos, Catman.

Cissy is still closed up, but I’m sure Cherry’s “outgoing-ness”
will help Cissy feel more relaxed and maybe bring her out of that
shell? Panel 4 came really close to getting me PC, thanks.

I’m still very curious about what race is on the planet, but
we’ll find out soon enough… They should be humanoid at least,
that plane looked no different than a RL one.

The steps practically scream that they’re bipeds like us.

And you can probably estimated their body-size and weight by looking
at the plane. The cockpit should be designed for giving the pilot a
somewhat-comfortable position to stay in while working the controls.
And the controls are most likely designed to be workable by a member
      of the species.

Maybe you could even try and guess some of their capabilities
by the design, color scheme and size of the controls.

Also the plane is probably designed to make take off
and landing survivable for the pilot.

Fun fact: one of the most underestimately dangerous animals on this planet.

But yeah. Maybe. Still: I’m pretty confident that you won’t find Octopi (Octopuses?) or horses build steps like the ones in the last strip.

That graphic should tell you everything you might want to know about the accuracy of
reconstructions of how dinosaurs might have looked. One thing in favor of the current
reconstructions is that they are based upon much more detailed and accurate knowledge
of vertebrate anatomy. My understanding is that it is possible to deduce a great deal
about a creature’s musculature from the skeleton. I do know that modern reconstructions
of hominins and hominids utilizes current knowledge of tissue depth at various points on
a skull. While much is still guesswork facial reconstructions these days can be startlingly
          accurate.

The biggest problem with figuring out an animal from it’s bones
is about how fat they could be naturally. A skeleton from a thin
person and a greatly over-weight one can look the same, but
which one was the normal of the two? An octopus would not
need much space but it would need a water cockpit, where as
say a centaur would need a dry one 3-5 times the size of a human.
These guys must be air-breathers that are either amphibious or
boat builders, which I doubt because there was no boat in the
lagoon. They most likely had to become cave dwellers to avoid
whom-ever is strip-mining the planet. That generator looks to be
a standard diesel or gas one so they must know how to drill for oil.
Or at least know how to make bio-fuel. So maybe 1960’s/1970’s
            era tech.

There were the pole boats I admitted I didn’t have a word for in tgw-1103 panel 7.
Since then found out the word is punt. And propelling it with the pole is punting.

Ah I thought that was part of the dock… I REALLY need get back to the eye doc…
the size of them (after I blew the frame up) says humanoid as well, too small for
anything else. they are actually much smaller than the punting boats in Italy.
More on the lines of net boats they use in Polynesia? Not sure…

You probably could take an educated guess at the weight of the
creature by analyzing the strength of the bones and a biologist
should be able to tell how muscular the beast was – which, again
              helps guessing the weight.

As for the skull: even as a layman it’s pretty obvious that the Hippo
              was a vegetarian.

You can’t really tell by the picture alone but their molars are huge
and all those pointy, scary tusks clearly aren’t meant to process
              meat – they’re weapons.

There’s a huge difference between what you and I as
laymen could find out by looking at a skeleton and what
people who actually studied animal anatomy could do.

It’s an all to common mistake to assume that experts
never know all that much anyway. Usually they do, even
if they can’t always explain their knowledge to an unlearned.

You can’t relay years of serious study over a single, simple
            conversation.

Buckshot missiles? Naa… I like the “Kitty litter” name better,
more so since it seems most core captains are big pieces of
    crap anyway 😉
