She sure packed enough, that backpack is bigger
than any field pack I’ve ever seen! I understand
her desire over then books most of mine were
ruined during a major move, I still miss ’em.
I have had my share of stupid bosses, a pair of them
arguing cost a friend of mine 3 degree burns over
30% of his body and a week of downtime. Over a stupid
chess game… long story and a year of nightmares.
Ah olive it is, I hope she can get through to Slimy, but I do
think they softened him up enough! Although, being in the
middle of a pissed-off giant cat and and equally pissed-off
raptor would give anyone pause… if not setting a record
for the 100 yard dash! XD
Excuse? They’re pigs. In their minds they don’t need an excuse!
There are 2 two subspecies of Law Enforcement Officer. On the one hand are Cops; who enforce the
law. On the other hand are Pigs; who consider themselves TO BE the law. Apparently Tyre
Nichols encountered a pack of Pigs. One hopes those miscreants will be convicted and that Nichols’
family is able to derive some comfort from the knowledge that, in prison society, former LEOs are
even more reviled than child molesters.
President Elect Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neanderthal B Woodman Domestic Violent Extremist SuperStraight
Bill,
I would add that there is a third subspecies of LEO, the Peace Officer.
The rarest of the rare, they know and enforce the law, but they’re also
willing to bend it a little bit in the interests of justice and peace.
They must be comfortable with themselves, willing to walk alone,
as their fellow LEOs are usually pack animals, following the herd,
right or wrong.
The immunity that LEOs have from being punished for their crimes needs to stop. This bunch needs to be sued for millions, and when their personal assets are depleted, it should come from the retirement fund of the force. The peer pressure from that would straighten them out quickly
It was a traffic stop, supposedly for reckless driving. No evidence of that has been provided yet.
After he’d stopped and was out of his car, for some reason he ran on foot.
Maybe it was simply “He disrespected us”? Anyway, don’t look up photos of him in the
hospital. Trust me, they’re brutal.
Only thing I can figure is he was black and might of drifted over the
line a little so they used it as an excuse to pull him over. I’ve had a
cop pull me over, asked me where I was going, was I drinking, where
I was coming from, I answered home, no and from work. When this
goof realized I wasn’t a DUI he said I had a licenses plate light out
and let me go with a warning. I was barely a 1/2 mile from home so
I got out and looked, both lights were on. It’s a ploy cops often use
to pull anyone over to make it “legal” to do so.
But what about them being part of a task force
against organized crime?
Shouldn’t they be, like, all over some Mobsters tax
declaration or something? Or bugging the phones
of a local drug dealer? Or maybe busting a gang joint?
“Hey Mr! Your rear bumper needs a paint job!” is
something for run of the mill beat cops, not for a
special unit, is it?
That’s why this is so wrong, they shouldn’t of bothered
the man, it still sounds like they were bored and he was
unlucky.
I grew up in a high-crime area, anyone under 30 and
driving a crappy car was pulled over often. It sucks
and is hugely unfair, but that’s how it works.
I really do wish every news station here would stop playing that video,
I feel for his family. That’s not easy to watch on any level. You can see
the rips in his clothes and every one is bloody.
I seen that poor man on a ABC news report, Those pigs just aren’t talking
publicly about it. Makes me wonder if they were using some drug or were
just in a mind for a fun evening beating and picked the least “deserving” by
mistake. Memphis is lucky so far there wasn’t a huge riot, yet. If anyone
deserves Catian justice, it’s those 5.
Either a side note or a new character, it’s bigger than a
field pack too, she won’t be able to run well much less walk
through house doors without ducking down a bit. Plus
she’s going to have one heck of a duck-walk when she
takes it off! My boy scout pack was maybe 1/3 the size.
I was thinking that her setup there was bigger then the USMC pack I had as a boy scout.
I could load the thing with more stuff than I could carry well . . .
By the way: the idea of hitting somebody so hard
that they will never contemplate war again in the
future …
If the other side is even remotely like humans that
would never work.
Fear and pain can only lead to hatred. The next
generation will probably inherit the hatred, but they
will never listen to their parents if trying to tell
them they can’t win.
“Scaring them straight” might work with individuals,
it will never work with an entire society.
In principle and in generral I agree. It’s a recurring theme in Turtledove’s series
that span generations, that are thinly-disguised reskins of actual history. I’ll
refrain from citing real-world examples and counter-examples this time, but you
can easily find both.
Beating the living crap out of an enemy is pretty much a short-term
result, like you say the losers won’t forget. However, if they in turn
make peace, help the survivors, and educate them, it might stop the
next time, but that’s only a best-case assessment.
Actually, no, that’s not how he came to be called “Ender”. He was already “Ender” before he ever went to that
military academy in orbit. His real name was “Andrew” but when his siblings were little they couldn’t pronounce
his name and called him “Ender”.
I can’t follow this anymore. What about the ‘others that
came and “chatted” while he was dying? Even the ambulance crew.
I think they should all be hauled in as well.
Anyone involved that caused him harm, or did nothing to alleviate the harm should be brought up on the appropriate charges ranging from murder to manslaughter to accessory after the fact.
No one bothered because he was a “perp” and didn’t deserve it.
I get their excuse, but I don’t support it. Civil servants get to the
point where it’s just a job, nothing more. At the cost of the people
that suffer due to that feeling.
The whole deserve/does not deserve discrimination
is just wrong.
If you find somebody on the ground who’s bleeding
to death – do you stop for a minute and decide if they
“deserve” to be rescued? Or do you try your best to
help them?
If some eighteen year old girl gets raped – does it really
matter if she spent her time partying or going to church
daily?
If the police catches somebody – anybody – they should
secure him, arrest him and try to put him to trial.
Even if he were as guilty as the black hell, it simply is not
their job to judge nor punish him.
The administrators are the ones who run the show.
Some bosses never figure it out.
Possibly there won’t be a duel.
Blonde she might be, but stupid? Appearantly not…
First the stick and then some carrots…
She sure packed enough, that backpack is bigger
than any field pack I’ve ever seen! I understand
her desire over then books most of mine were
ruined during a major move, I still miss ’em.
She survived one Fall of Civilization, so when she learned of the Imperial
pilot, decided that her original bug-out bag wasn’t nearly large enough.
We know she is quite strong with both her figure and the size of that pack.
Maybe a former Marine?
I have had my share of stupid bosses, a pair of them

He sounds like a man I would have loved to know.
It hurts to even read it:

I’ve missed this story until very recently. What excuse did the thugs give for killing him?
Excuse? They’re pigs. In their minds they don’t need an excuse!

Immunity of executive personal is always problematic.
Be it government, other layers of the administration,
military or police.
Their job is to implement and uphold the law.
Not to stand above it.

I can guess, I couldn’t watch the entire report, brought back too many
memories of my own experience.
What I really don’t get: according to the news
I read the officers involved were from some kind
of task force for fighting against organized crime.
How’s stopping a person for “reckless driving”
supposed to fall into their line of working?
Only thing I can figure is he was black and might of drifted over the
line a little so they used it as an excuse to pull him over. I’ve had a
cop pull me over, asked me where I was going, was I drinking, where

In other words: it’s not just me who doesn’t
understand it.
I really do wish every news station here would stop playing that video,

Reckon I lost track somewhere.
Wondering who is the gorgeous blonde lady
with the enormous back pack.
Either a side note or a new character, it’s bigger than a
field pack too, she won’t be able to run well much less walk
through house doors without ducking down a bit. Plus
she’s going to have one heck of a duck-walk when she

I just noticed, she doesn’t have the hip strap on…
Man, her poor shoulders! I made that mistake, once…
By the way: the idea of hitting somebody so hard

Just try to imagine how “well” that strategy
would work with the Catians at the receiving
end …
Catians believe in “at any cost” so if they lose, they’re gone.
Only the kits would survive, if any.
And how do you think the kits would feel about it?
“It’s our old gov’ments fault! We really had it coming”
or rather “just you wait til I’m all grown up. I’ll show you!”
I really don’t think you can quench the thirst for revenge
by hitting swift and hard.
Beating the living crap out of an enemy is pretty much a short-term
result, like you say the losers won’t forget. However, if they in turn
make peace, help the survivors, and educate them, it might stop the
next time, but that’s only a best-case assessment.
That does work sometimes.
You need to be careful about the “education” part. tho.
Not enough and they might not learn.
Try to stuff it down their throats and they won’t swallow
it.
Also a theme in “Ender’s Game”
That’s how he got the name Ender
Actually, no, that’s not how he came to be called “Ender”. He was already “Ender” before he ever went to that
military academy in orbit. His real name was “Andrew” but when his siblings were little they couldn’t pronounce
his name and called him “Ender”.
My memory says it was from an incident at school on Earth.
Guess it’s time to re-read.
Those who say violence does not solve anything, just have not used enough.
Short of wiping them out you can not bludgeon
any larger group of people into permanent submission.
Eventually they will revolt.
I can’t follow this anymore. What about the ‘others that
came and “chatted” while he was dying? Even the ambulance crew.
I think they should all be hauled in as well.
