Well that’s going pretty much as I expected but I have my
doubts that the DI will like it or allow it. Hopefully someone
there knows and understands them enough to fill him in.

I’m glad their meal went well but I can’t help but cringe
a bit as to what all was talked about. Queen Ann’gijin
seems pleased which could be a good thing or bad.

    ….reasons.

The DI after learning the dragonflies are telepathic could quote
the security regs and “remove” him based on that alone.

The dragonflies would make an unreachable communication
link and provide recon into trouble spots but I doubt they would
allow themselves to be used like that.

When Sunny appeared in the previous installment I figured it would not go well. Still hard to believe
a member of the Empire’s armed forces who doesn’t know about dragon flies. (Or are they some sort of
secret). I don’t figure they’re common but unless the DI is an immigrant surely he would know about
d-flies. Jonas needs to tell Sgt Markham that D-flies name themselves. Also that they are independent
actors and he does not control Sunny. I feel for Jonas. Because of my abortive stint at OCS I wound
up going into the USAF as an E-2 Airman (as opposed to slick sleeve Airman Basic). The effect was
the same as if somebody painted a target on my back. No fun. When the TI (training instructor) found
out why I had the stripe and confirmed that I knew the basic marching and facing commands he
promptly made me dorm chief and I marched the flight (AF equivalent to a platoon only really used at
boot camp) to its 2nd meal. Real shit job made worse by the fact that that flight had an extraordinary
percentage of people with their heads up their ass. I basically taught the flight how to make a rack,
shine shoes, set up their locker, and damned near everything else. Like I said, real shit job.

The dragonflies and the people who are aware of them have been very cautious
about revealing their existence. Mostly out of concern that some idiots would
try to capture them as pets. Sunny, for example, would not have revealed herself
had the Drill not threatened her partner. But they’ve slowly been coming out,
all Cats at the Cathouse are aware of them as there is a group (ketch) living
in the attic there. But the Cats say nothing, as usual.

It would take a while for people to accept them as people and not
pets or a threat sadly. It’s human nature to mistrust someone new
many would react with fear and try to kill them, only time will change
that I’m afraid. The DI is an easy example if he freaks out and claims
Jonas is a security threat because Sunny controls him blah blah…
Unless he’s wise enough to contact his top about this and they know
to look into it or who to talk to. Either way Jonas is in for a rough ride.

OT: I made a shopping run to Sam’s Club and got my annual flu shot. Not sure how it gets paid for but it doesn’t cost
me so I always get mine there. Anyhow there is a little bit of paperwork you have to fill out to get the shot. Name,
address, quick medical history etc. At the top, right after the spaces for your name it had “sex assigned at birth”
with the usual 2 choices. “Sex assigned at birth”???? And here all along I figured the Docs just looked at what was
presents and made a judgement call. I suppose there could be a problem with medically treating a biological male
as a female so this is how Sam’s handles the problem. Call me old fashioned but in my book a guy who goes the
full trans route and has the “bottom surgery” is just a nullo with a really weird crotch. Only the Creator can make a
    woman – OR a man!

I had seen a person make a comment (no doubt a trans) that they’d
wish there was a machine that would just transform a person quickly
and painlessly to what ever gender they wished. My point was who
would you be? How often would they switch? The main point of having
a gender is to continue the species how long would we last as a
race if that no longer the point? It wasn’t well received.

an then the Creator throws a loop,, a new born that has both sex’s..
and, at age can have kids with it’s self…
.. gender.. is a made up word (1955)..
gender is how you identify in society.. (there are over 68)
sex is how a doctor treats you medically,, or continue the species..

Even biologicaly there’s more then two versions.

Granted, anything but XX and XY with an obviously matching phenotype is
rare. That does not mean those variation are any less human than us.

There’s even a few villages in South America where many “girls” suddenly
develop into the men they genetically are once they hit puberty.

Just because they have an unusually low hormone level does that make them
        anything less than us?

And I know for fact, that there’s less than a few people who tried real hard to fit
into the boy-loves-girl and girl-loves-boy scheme that they were expected to fit
into – and suffered for it.

        —-
As for your mushroom identity: good for you.
Don’t let anybody force you to be something you’re not!

PS: There’s probably more people who are born as neither fully male nor female
        than we think.

For example there’s quite a few cases of very sporty girls who thought about picking
up a career in this field – only to find out that they’re not actually qualify as “women”
        genetically.

A few years back, when the doctor delivering a baby noticed that the famous first question
any parent used to ask didn’t have a simple answer, they sometimes picked one sex.

The kids often where operated on to help them match up to this choice – or treated medically.
(Aka: they were given high doses of the hormones that nature/god/biology somehow failed to
        provide them with)

That’s not the kind of background you’re likely to talk about with random strangers, is it?

And don’t forget that being gay/lesbian not so long ago was considered either a crime or a
        disease or both.

Speaking of social norms: the idea of having only straight male/female relationships is a
rather new one. In Greece it was normal, expected even, for a young man to be introduced
into their sexuality by an older man (often a teacher, even).

The one time a philosopher allowed girls into is school as students was quite a scandal – not
least because they assumed he’d naturally want to have sex with them too.
(They were 100% ok with him bedding their sons. But their daughters? Unimaginable)

In pre-modern Japan if a noble born man liked to bed both men and women, nobody would’ve
thought twice about it. Of course this was his right.

Me, my comment was not about homosexuals – male or female – nor was it in reference to individuals whose
chromosomal sex is inconsistent with phenotypic sex, or in which the phenotype is not readily classifiable as
either male or female i.e. intersexed. True phenotypically intersexed people most likely constitute less than
0.018% of live births. As I wrote, I have written I have written I have worked with such an individual. What I was
referring to was people who (I believe) are suffering from a delusion i.e. that they were “born in the wrong
body”. So called ” body dismorphia” is, I believe, a form of mental illness and should be treated as such.
Linguistically and biologically speaking there are only two genders. I do not pander to people’s delusions.
I call things as I see them. If someone’s identity is so fragile that they require my affirmation then they
are the one with the problem. English is difficult enough for non-native speakers to master. We do not
need people screwing it up by inventing nonsense “pronouns”. That being said I would not go out of my
way to knowingly or intentionally insult anyone. The Creator commanded us, so far as it depends upon
us, to be at peace with everyone with whom we interact. I try to live by that. (Although I do sometimes
wear my “Make America Great Again” hat.;) )

There’s fine lines between delusions, clinically mental illness and suffering from
a “non-standard” mindset that makes it hard to function as a normal person.

Homosexuality was – until very recently – seen as a crime or a mental illness.
            And to date people are still being “treated” for “curing” homosexuality sometimes;
            often with well-documented, devastating results.

According to the current gender discussion:
Maybe the pendulum is swinging a bit far in the other direction now, I really don’t
            know.

But as long nobody forces me to change my personal self-image to align with their
own orientation, I prefer to err on the side of avoiding to hurt others.

I once worked with an intersex person. She was a good friend and coworker. But intersex births are a
vanishingly small percentage of live births. The process of going from fertilized egg to newborn is
unimaginably complex with a whole heap of things which can go wrong. That still does mean that a
biological male can become anything but an ersatz woman. Ned can correct me but development
is very much a statistical process and sometimes things don’t work right.

    Here we go…
Ok, gender is a term used to describe a persons sex at birth
and yes there are the hermaphrodites that are born to
humans that happens in all animals.
Some animals can change sex when there is a huge lack of
one gender. And that change is for the sake of the species
    not for each one’s enjoyment.
Most hermaphrodites both sexual organs don’t mature enough
to reproduce offspring which is my whole point in this. It’s not
about identity or a persons pleasure or happiness or what
they identify as it’s about the race.
We just all just came out of a pandemic that without a successful
cure would of killed up to 1/3 of the population. Of the planet.
Now look again what I’ve said about animals in the wild, and
think about all the issues that were brought up in that light.
LGBQ+ are taking themselves out of the gene pool. Yes it’s their
choice I’m not saying that, but if we’re to survive as a race it’s
    something to consider.
If/when we colonize other planets population will be a huge issue
for the colony(s) so if someone wants to make that change they
should take a tip from Teresa and others in the royal court and have
their eggs/sperm collected. That way their DNA isn’t lost to the gene
    pool.

      October 8, 2022, 13:21 | # | Reply

OK. Either L-whatever is a small and weird minority – than “taking them out of
the gene pool” is a non-issue.

Or they are numerous enough to matter in this regard. Are you really saying we
should force them to breed, seriously?

And what about me then? I don’t have any biological off-spring myself, and I’m not
planing to. So what? It is my choice (even if I consider myself straight and are happily
married to a woman – her daughter from another marriage is enough for the both of
      us, thank you very much)

      • Scarsdale
        October 8, 2022, 14:05 | # | Reply

Omg really? It’s only a non-issue because our current
planetary population is so high it doesn’t matter. And no
I’m talking about saving the genetic diversity hence the
collecting. Don’t put words in my mouth.

        • Scarsdale

LGBQ+ refers to all the gay, lesbian, cross-dressers,
trans, bi, and those who identify as something else.

        • me
          October 9, 2022, 01:01 | # | Reply

Sorry. I managed to miss the bit about space colonies.

For a limited gene pool size of a species like us to become a problem
the population has to go down to around a few thousands – maybe even
less with our current abilities in the fields of genetic engineering.

Even then they will certainly have more pressing problems then LBGTQ+
persons failing to contribute in whatever form to stabilizing that pool.
(Technically even lesbians and gays can and might be all too willing to
contribute. There’s always the possibility to donate eggs/sperm for
example; even a transperson could be asked to donate before the
          transformation)

For a colony: they probably will need to maintain some kind of contact
with the home world for the first few generations anyway. An infusion of
fresh blood every few decades should be enough.

My guess is that building a working, independent economy and above all
food/air/water supply would of more immediate concern.

And of course collecting and taking along as many genetic samples as
possible – as you suggested – would certainly be helpful.

I should mention that my wife and I had a close friend that
was a hermaphrodite, genetically she was male but only
had a “working” womb. She couldn’t have children with her
husband who she divorced and after a time exploring herself
married a sweet gal and they were happy. But her genetics
caused other problems in her health and had to have surgery
to correct a missing stomach valve. The first time caused her
to nearly die from an accidental cut to her colon that infecting
her entire system.Left her with epilepsy, after she recovered
tried to had the stomach problem fixed again, and she died
      on the table.
Hermaphrodites tend to have issues like this because of the
distorted DNA that creates them it is very rare that the effects
      of their DNA go well.

I doubt anyone would assert that it is the latter. My comment was not in any way in reference to homosexuality.
My motto is: I don’t care who you sleep, what you sleep with or if you sleep. I would qualify the first part of that
principle to refer to consenting adults. Active pedophiles should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
I also believe that individuals under the age of consent should not be allowed to undergo so-called “gender
affirming surgery”. A consenting adult is free to cut any part of his/her body he/she wishes. A physician who
performs a “sex change operation” on a minor should not only lose their medical license but should spend a
great deal of time behind bars as a guest of the taxpayers. Nor do I believe that a parent or guardian should
be able to authorize such surgery for their offspring/charges. That choice should be reserved to the
individual and then not until they have reached their majority. Doctors ought not to be performing radical
mastectomies on otherwise healthy teenaged girls – PERIOD!

For the third time in my life we as a species are on the
edge of a nuclear war. A button push away from a
world-wide extinction event. Much of ALL life will be
snuffed out because of a few men wanting power over
others. 100’s of millions would die in a moment. Billions
more afterwards because of radiation and the lack of
medical care including my wife, father, and myself.
I accept that I am concerned for the survival of our race
based on those facts it has nothing to do with the right
to choose or my personal preferences. I am looking at
this in a clinical way not to forward any agenda. I DO NOT
have anything against the LGBQ+ community as I had said
Anna was a close friend and we even attended her wedding
to Bethany. Anna and I spoke often about how her family
acted and I supported her in her decisions and spoke to her
father about how wrong he was. They did reconcile before her
death so at least that helped.

I apologize for misunderstanding your intentions.

Still. Whether or not we’re wiped out by a nuclear war has little to do with
      people living non-“normal” lives.

If the war gets so bad that the question of one person parenting a child
becomes a problem of the survival of the species …

Well. As I said this’d mean we’re down to less then 10 000 people anyways.
As humans in general are pretty clever at short-time surviving this likely
implies the rest of our eco-sphere would probably just be gone.

      So …

Most people don’t know just how fragile the gene pool is 50K people aren’t
enough to avoid the defects that can happen. I have heart trouble, My father
has had 3 heart attacks and a pacemaker/defibrillator installed after a heart
valve failure, my grandfather died on the phone with my cousin from an attack.
My other grandfather died of cancer,my mother had cancer, I’ve had cancer. now
clearly there’s a heavy risk to my children and theirs. Things like this is common
in everyone’s family tree and the only way to reduce those risks is mixing the
gene pool as much as possible.

Jerico and the outlaying areas in the Terran Empire have that problem now and
their added people from the humans is going to help that as well but the women
out number the men hugely so if there was a sperm/egg bank of those that die
        in fighting will help that.

Like with Anna and Bethany had asked if I could donate to them having a child,
I couldn’t but my son offered, sadly after Anna passed she went home to her
parents and we haven’t heard from her since.

Your numbers seem to be different from those from my sources.
          Like: https://www.britannica.com/science/50-500-rule

Other sources used numbers like 2000 or a bit more than that.

And according to some geneticists who analyzed the human genome
we came very close to extinction like 70 000 years ago
          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toba_catastrophe_theory#Genetic_bottleneck_in_humans
Quote: “It is supported by some genetic evidence suggesting that today’s humans are
descended from a very small population of between 1,000 and 10,000 breeding pairs
that existed about 70,000 years ago”

Of course there’s no rock solid number like “if your population drops to 1998 you’ll die out with
in a century, if there’s at lease 1999 left you’re guaranteed to survive”.

So, yeah maybe we shouldn’t risk it and therefore leave at least 100 000 alive (from the current
          population of over 7 000 000 000).

Ooops. Gotta be careful, me! Some sources talk about individuals, some about females, some
about “breeding pairs” … anyways to the best of my knowledge we already DID survive a time
where we were down to a scaringly small number (well below the 50k you mentioned)

Life would be very much different tho. Try and find anything in you possession where you can
name every single person who had a hand in it’s production.

Personally I can find not a single piece.
Not even the fruits I grow in my own garden, as I usually bought the seeds somewhere.

Anything non-food bought in a supermarket usually has a supply chain (or rather network)
that reaches several times around the globe. (Even most food items unless we’re talking
about raw meat or fresh, regional veggies)

The sources I have seen said that the absolute minimum to preserve the species would be 60 breeding pairs
and even breeding would have to be extremely carefully controlled for several generations. Even then you
would wind up in a situation like modern cheetahs who, I have read, have very little genetic diversity.

The reason that there’s some many different numbers is probably because there’s no hard limit.

Evolution is always about trial and error.

Also, how well a small population fares depends on a lot of variables. For example, fast breeding
animals are pretty resilient against acquiring unwanted traits (if 90% of all the rabbits are eaten before
they can reproduce anyway, losing a few more because of gene defects doesn’t matter much).

A slow reproducing species with no natural enemies can’t cope with these issues quite as well.

Humans something of a special case, since we have learnt how to play with loaded dice.
