.. what’s that… that is “To Late.!” .. to late to run…
that is ,, unless you can clear (run) 1Km in less than 30 seconds… and that is using “Project Thor ‘s ” God rod drop data.. ( a 20 foot pole, 1 foot in diameter, and weighing 24,000 pounds,.) would reach mach 10 from release drop, till hitting atmosphere then slowing (friction burn) to mach 3,, so moving at 3 Km a second (mach 10) , it would take 30 seconds to drop from 90 KM.. and have a 1 Km blast / vaporize range..
so.. good luck.!
I’ll let you do the math. 6.7 minute transit time, large enough to still have worthwhile mass after ablation (fantasy materials allowed) how fast and how much energy on impact?
My head hurts just thinking about it.
I take it the road-warrior types are Fringe (of the Empire) bounty hunters? Or more likely, people who want to maintain their independence, and cooperate with the Legion / Empire in order to do so.
My first thought is these ARE the Marauders, and they’ve come to sound out the possibility of joining an enemy they know they can’t beat. It’s possible they’re not into behavior that would prohibit it.
Probably more likely that they are seeking help against them. We’ll see tonight.
While I do understand the semantic need to use the word, I still have a slight objection to ‘fuck,’ as the term developed from ‘Pluck Yew,’ and probably(?) could not easily originate on another world.
I don’t want to get into a made-up language. Just think of expressions like that as transferred into common english usage.
It’s easier for me and my readers.
Gary, I don’t know how many G.I.s (active duty or veteran like the Catman and myself) you are/have been around but that is exactly what a G.I. would say. Possibly “Oh, shit!” but, IMO, “Oh, fuck.” is more likely.
In the military, situations where that is the only appropriate comment are common.
You really, really don’t want to hear it from a medic or an EOD man, though.
(Explosive Ordinance Disposal)
f.u.c.k. = Fornicate Under Consent of King… is the most likely usage,, while as a master longbow-man, in a medieval recreation group , pluck yew does come up…
and at Bill,, as a Marine,, that word was every other word,, an if really going was a paragraph by it’s self…
Rob Stanley: look at the Wikipedia entry for a good summary of the word roots, and its parallels in other Germanic influenced languages.
Both the yew plucking and the Kingly consent are specifically mentioned as myth.
In college Criminal Justice, I was taught that FUCK began in courtrooms as legal term, an acronym for rape, Forced Unlawful Carnal Knowledge.
Forced carnal knowledge was at one time lawful within marriage. Hence the “unlawful” specification.
HENCE,, the “most likely usage.” .. since no one will say where the word started… and was never officially “recorded”.. it is ALL conjecture..
and since all myths are based on real events ( King Arthur ,, Robin Hood ,, Count Dracula ..) why not a name.!??
Rob, I learned that when I went to OCS at Quantico in ’71. Never was much for cussin’ before then. Oh, and the Jar Heads have no monopoly on the word. Members of all branches use it quite commonly.

In answer to a previous comment, no, they’re not opening the dance with civilian targets.
In my defense I did say it seemed way out of character. I’m sorry I misinterpreted.
It’s cool, I set it up on purpose. If the story is predictable, it’s less interesting.
I like the Mad Max vehicles in panel two. No need or time to fix the gearbox on five. Incoming.

If can see it coming, it’s already too late to say it…
