Why do I suspect that the Cattians were designed to be “Universal Donors” of, well, pretty much everything… Skin, limbs, blood, internal organs, bones, etc. but probably not eyes, as they would be too large for the human skull… I also suspect both their healing rate and immune systems are vastly better than Human, as there a number of diseases that are fairly easy to transmit through intimate contact…
That’s a good theory especially since we were told that their creator had cleaned up their gene pool to prevent problems with small population breeding.
I suspect that would really help with the “universal donor” concept.
Jahn? Doc called the big guy Bryan, Lt Maucz called him Sgt Baker. Now Miral calls him Jahn. Pure spec theory: His full name is Bryan Jahn Baker, and his parents called him by his middle name, to differentiate him from his father, Bryan Ivar Baker. The army calls him by his first name, but he asked Miral to call him by his second, as a token of friendship. Miral is just now getting around to returning the gesture, since her head’s in a better place after seeing Kelly is going to be ok.
I like Charles’ theory about the Cats design. It seems perfectly in like with the guy who spearheaded their creation. Probably died rich. I’m sure Marta Bushear’s (? Do wives often take their husband’s last name in this culture?) heart did not come from an “involuntary donor”. Of course, it also makes the parents who acquire a Cat slave/companion for their children even creepier — the “step-sib” is also a reserve organ supply.
Wow. Lots to chew on in the “home” strip. A probable future antagonist, an assassin who will work for the protagonists, at least temporarily (given the vote incentive), possibly because she needed work within her newfound ethical (or moral?) limits, and a spared victim with a cute little daughter who may or may not live within Jerico’s territory, depending on how far Angel ran, and may or may not have fallen to a backup hit man. And is Green Hair a friend or a girlfriend? I plan to stay tuned.
As I could not expand the “menu” behind the man and his daughter, I’m making the assumption that Angel ran to Jerico.
And I am guessing since Canuck Charlie hasn’t been mentioned before (that I can remember), this reinforces the idea that it occurred in some other town.
Also, I wouldn’t expect that Jerico would tolerate freelance assassins working in their area or crime bosses because of their Constitution decriminalizing a number of areas.
Good eye. I didn’t notice the menu. Only place I’m fairly sure she didn’t run FROM is Canada. And I doubt that her line of work was ‘tolerated’ where she came from, either. But you’re right, King squeezed the other crime bosses out before he became emperor, and the odds of any having re-established, with both the lower incentive (far fewer lucrative lines of business are illegal) and the fact that their principal competitor is now both crimelord AND The Law, is pretty low. Working for the Empire might be the only job in town, in addition to my earlier observation about her ethics.
(edit) Apparently ferme is French for Closed (and apparently farm). Still doubt that was in Quebec.
in that line o work ,, you don’t “run” cross town,, much less state.. you change country’s.!!
so a France to USA , would be a good bet… then something happened in Gaia’s town , an had to run to Jerico.. or moved to Jerico cause was recruited…
Again, I know that. What I don’t know is how much of North America is in the nascent kingdom of Jerico. But I concede, France is more likely than Quebec or Haiti or New Orleans.
My point being that a nickname like Canuck Charlie in Quebec or Ottowa or Vancouver would be a lot like Yankee Jerry in Boston or Hartford. Not impossible, just seems unlikely. OTOH, a two-part run like Rob suggests makes perfect sense.
I’m leaning toward Angel Black to be another recruit of Matthew Costman. Her back story looks like something that would attract him. Frivolesque is set in Quebec City so maybe she didn’t have to run that far, besides if she ran at a time shortly before the Fall Canuck Charlie may not have survived.

Angel’s story sounds similar to the John character in “The Replacement Killers”, where he backed out of killing a child for a crime boss.

You’re right. I changed it. Thank you.
