Why would Miss June tell Emma about Belle? Are they recruiters for the Mothers Effers? I think Miral should rub it in that he is going to bleed out and then let him.
Not a medical type, but I’m thinking he won’t bleed out from that wound. He would be a much better symbol of stupidity and what not to do if he lived. Nickname him Stumpy.
I know it’s legal and is her right, but how socially acceptable is it for Belle to wear that big sidearm that openly? I don’t see many others around Jerico doing so. Of course, she’s already demonstrated that it’s not her go-to solution for all confrontations. She was wearing it when she stole Walker’s scotch to clock the drunk with instead of pointing it at him or pistol whipping him.
Remember what happened LAST time Miral, a rapist and a knife were alone together? I know she has agreed to live by Terran laws, but she’s on Catia now, so it’s a matter of which is more important to her, her traditions or the uniform she is wearing. Maucz clearly expects her to act as a native Catian would, as she would have a few months ago. I half hope she surprises him, but would understand either way.
Much like today’s world, open carry is considered rude.
Her tutors are discussing that with her in the “Imperial etiquette for Ladies” classes.
As for Miral, well…
The Cat sayeth nothing.

Funny, I kind of hoped things were different in Jericho. I also think it varies from place to place. I’ve seen a lot of open carry where my son lives around Truth or Consequences, NM. I’ve even seen it down in the big city (for NM) of Las Cruces. I figure it’d result in a 911 call up around Albuquerque or Santa Fe (those folks think Kali is moderate) and the carrier would wind up in jail.
Personally,I think it’s more of a choice. While open carry may SEEM rude, it sends a none too subtile message others to treat her with respect and caution. On the other hand, carrying it concealed in Jericho keeps the bad guys on their toes, as they won’t know who’s packing heated who’s not.
On the other hand, Belle may well feel naked (as in unprotected) without it. I’m sure in Elroy’s and her travels, there have been times that just wearing it openly prevented interactions that otherwise would have turned nasty. She may have some acclimating to do.

Patience, Paul. Patience.
