No, they didn’t. I expected it, but it wasn’t explicit, and hence open to interpretation. But I’m not sure we’re still operating under Lamia’s code duello any more.
If I had waited a day I’d have had most of my answers. Jerico will not be crown lands, and qualifies as a kingdom in spite of being much smaller than realworld Nepal or Romania, much less however big they are now. Of course, we don’t know how big an area the Legion has conquered, um, liberated. So, none of this “born in Jerico or a citizen at the time it was created” stuff, huh. I half-expected King to name Ronnie interim king on Catia. The Cats of Jerico still COULD pick him, since as far as they are concerned, he IS a Cat, just with a rather boring skin pattern and beady little eyes. But I doubt it — in terms of experience he’s still a kitten. I also expect there will eventually be something like this “senate” at the imperial level, with each kingdom sending a representative or a delegation, but with only five or six kingdoms it’s not needed yet, and King has his hands full with more immediate organizational issues.
You’ll have to wait until TGW-492 for some of that.
I think that it’s safe to say that Ronnie, starting from scratch and immersed in Cats, thinks like one of them.
But to the other Cats, he is a clan member, so the fact that he’s a Terran doesn’t even show up on the radar, so to speak.
A King must swear service to their Kingdom. Ronnie has already sworn service to the people of the Empire, and so cannot ever become a King without breaking that oath.
While it hasn’t come up, the Empire now has a solid block of kingdoms in Europe, stretching from Romania in the South to Poland in the north. Pretty much all of today’s Eastern Europe, with some former countries combined. I haven’t got it all figured out yet.
But controlling the western borders has been unpleasant in places.
…
they never said the combatants could not leave the ring….

Heh. I should have had him say “Step across the yellow ring”.
