petercat-i have been reading this comic for a long time. currently logged in. I dont have a clue how to generate traffic, other than good marketing. I vote for The Gentle Wolf on Top Web Comics 6.5 days a week, sometimes from different machines. (I can tell you David Hobbs is getting old-LOL) But readership is just one aspect. Money is another. I am sure this site is costing you, yet I cannot find a way to donate. I noticed recently that the site is loading very slowly. Are you pushing your data limits?
Click on “shop”, and there is nothing to buy. Member content is sparse. Can this be worked on?
send me a link and ill donate to help, but marketing is he key.
I haven’t heard from my web guy for a while, he was going to make and list the merchandise.
There’s supposed to be a PayPal donation button, but I can’t see it.
As far as the slow loading, I’m going to try updating the wordpress software and addons later tonight, to see if that helps… But I’m afraid it will screw things up beyond recall.
Just finished backing the site up, in fact.
So what kind of merchandise would everyone like?
As I once mentioned in an earlier post, I am in London, Ontario Canada. Shipping fees might be bad, but something lighter like T-shirts could be sent Parcel Post or similar. My family members cross over a lot maybe I can split them on a PO box. I will check into that. I do not have a continuous problem with slow load, only occasionally.
Ditto for me as well Rick. I vote 7 days a week. As far as monetary contributions, how do we do that. I have just finished reading the whole comic again start to finish. You are doing a great job, but that does not seem to bring readers. I cannot help there either. How are you coming with merchandise? I don’t know if having it, would help or not.
i don’t know about the cost,,, but a lot of comics are switching (posted in two places.) to “Webtoon.” …
an yes i vote every day.. in the am tho..
an wow,, that lady is so like my mom…
..now would be a good time to bring up Chira (both sides.) with the war coming,, an her being a blue.. she needs to git out of there..!!! cuz you know, if the raiders (bad guys) see her.. shes gone…
A lot of the webcomics I read came to my notice as mentions in other comics or mentions in blogs.
Do you read/comment in anything like AceOfSpades.com?
You might want to contact Big Head press, I think you might ‘fit’ with them.
I used to read and comment on another webcomic that shall not be named here.
Not only did he refuse to allow someone who reads both to mention mine,
he changed his website so that the names of people who had their own sites were
no longer highlighted as a “Hey” look here! flag.
But I’ll check other places, thanks. Gab seems to be dying.
Well, your sub-title is “a conservative webcomic”.
That will discourage a large percentage of your potential readers first thing after they’ve clicked in.
I understand you think liberals are idiots or troublemakers. That’s your choice, but it limits your readership considerably.
Demonizing all liberals means very few will last long as readers.
It is possible to be conservative and still friendly to the other side, y’know? Heinlein is a case in point.
Hard to convert people if you chase them away. Just sayin…
Your Obama satire will pretty much kill any interest from many liberals who get that far, which is a shame, since your story is interesting.
And certainly you update more regularly than many other comics I read.
Your site is much better than it was – one thing I would like is for the comment section to be the same width as the comic.
Right now I have to scroll sideways to read comments that are wider than the comic, and that is a pain since your site sets the side arrow key, my automatic go-to for side scrolling, as the next page key.
Also, ctrl-v does not seem to work in the comments. This is annoying to people like me who like to edit their prose on the fly.
I don’t think that all Liberals are idiots or troublemakers. Just the ones that get the most attention.
There are many who hold liberal views who just want to be left alone to live their lives as they see fit.
If people don’t want to read it because they find it offensive, that’s their choice. More on this Friday.
As far as the page width goes, the comic scales to fit your monitor, the comments don’t.
The comic dimensions are 1805 X 3200, the webpage is designed for a monitor that is at least 1920 X 1080.
If your monitor is smaller than that, you’re seeing a degraded image of the comic.
Sorry.
Ah, yeah my current laptop is only 1280, so I’m losing some detail. Still looks good though.
I really do miss the copy/paste shortcut – if your web guy could get it to work in the comment box, that would be great.
But back to the liberal/conservative thing… If you tell a good story people will come. But!
…If your story kicks them in the balls, they will leave. And you don’t need to kick your readers to tell a good story.
The busy-bodies could have been any religion or political affiliation and the story would have worked – the problem wasn’t that they were liberals, it was that they were idiots.
But in that section it feels like “liberal” is used in a derogatory way. If you want more readers, not insulting them is a good start.
And, yeah, I’m a liberal (left-leaning Independent* with some libertarian inclinations).
But I don’t automatically hate conservatives. My dad was a republican. My mom is a democrat. But we’re all people.
* which ain’t saying much. There are so many divisions in the “left” it is less like a concrete block and more like a pail filled with magnetic pebbles. Most of which are repelled by each other.
But I digress…my point isn’t that there aren’t liberal idiots, certainly there are. There are idiots in virtually any group you can think of. Congress, for instance. But I digress again…
I guess my main point is, if you shoot yourself in the foot, does it matter if your doctor is conservative or liberal? If you like good music, it doesn’t matter if Leonard Bernstein or Aretha Franklin were liberal.
Good is good. But written stuff? Then it matters. So if your music demonizes half your audience, don’t be surprised if they stand up and walk out.
“I don’t think all Liberals are idiots or troublemakers. But these particular characters are both.” maybe putting that in as an author note on the pages with those busy-bodies would help people like me get past that section.
Cuz, I admit it, it tested my forbearance. Then again, if you want to limit your readership to conservatives, then you’re doing fine.
I can be your token.
You’re losing me – which busy bodies did you find offensive?
I’m sorry, but I just don’t get what your point is. The worst of the religious people so
far have been the ones with the bear – now that’s stereotyping!
I’ve already had one person scream at me (all caps and curses) that I’m a ray-cyst
because… reasons!
Makes it hard to take the leftists seriously.
I had hoped that my mini-blog on the next page would have cleared things up.
I don’t have any problem with liberals. I do have problems with socialists who
are determined to call me a bunch of -ists and use that as an excuse to hate me,
threaten me, and take away my means of making a living.
I really have a problem with anyone who wants to twist everything I say so that
they can force this pleasant round peg into a vile square hole of their own devising.
I don’t want to go into a political rant, that’s not the purpose of this page.
I’ll just end with saying that you’re not my only liberal reader.
And I’ve never had a “token” anything, and will never want to.
That was pretty offensive.
I have tried to post an apology reply multiple times now, but it doesn’t show up.
So, Apologies again, and extra apologies if they are just piling up in a buffer.
The busybodies I meant are the ones trying to stop the adoption cuz single male, etc.
I had more to say, but can’t remember all of it – probably just as well.
btw, I saw no blog on the next page. Is it restricted content?
No apologies necessary, it was a joke.
I was kind of twisting your tail, if the meaning comes through.
I tried to adopt two sisters once, 13 and 16.
Like Larissa and Christina, they were too old to be adopted normally.
The judge refused on the grounds that living with a single male would be
dangerous for them.
Foster homes are safer? They’d both suffered abuse in foster homes.
Cost me a fortune in legal fees.
But gay men can adopt boys. Which I don’t have a problem with.
But the justice system should treat everyone equally.
My mistake, the blog is at TGW-358
Yeah, what I’ve read about the Foster system is scary.
But some, I’m sure, are good people.
And in theory there are social worker types checking on conditions sometimes.
So, could you have Fostered them, instead of adopt? Or would the beaurocracy nix that for the same reason?
By the time of my final loss, it was too late.
The older one had turned 17, a legal adult.
She got custody of her sister and they both moved in with me.
One is making a career in the USMC, the other is in college on a Navy ROTC scholarship.
One of the reasons that Navy and Marines are so heavily featured in this webcomic, BTY.
Sorry about the delayed posting. Had some trouble last night.
I need more readers, anybody have any suggestions?
That don’t cost anything…

Ah. Slow loading. Sometimes this site gets heavily spammed by bots. It’s a WordPress thing, I think.

t-shirts for a start. Something depicting a “gentle” K selected wolf. Or the original four in movie poster style
Have you thought about getting business cards made up and spreading them around? Good art work and the URL should do it. That’s marketing on the cheap
