Interesting. Our Earth is a “human world”, but in what the other humans consider to be “dragon space”. Did the dragons intentionally hide us from the others? Is one of the other planets or moons in the Sol system a “dragon world”, rather than Earth itself, and we don’t realize it? If all sapient races originated on the same world, I would think all of them would need or prefer similar environments and so their chosen worlds would be “terraformed” similarly, but once again, this just shows there is a lot of story not told yet, and I’m still looking forward to seeing it revealed a bit at a time.
And yes, Chirk is Gephart’s daughter. I have a daughter I neither produced nor formally adopted, but raised and nurtured.
Kathy and Viktor discussed it in part in TGW 235.
But in addition, since I hadn’t planned on going into it further in the comic…
Humans were already hated as slavers long before the Dragons discovered us.
They decided to keep us in isolation to see how we developed without (much)
outside influence.
Were we slavers by nature, or by culture?
While there were some early disappointments, we were never a homogeneous
culture, and several major ones matured enough to outlaw slavery entirely.
When one of them became the Empire (Dragons thought that calling it the
“Dragon Empire” was cute), and codified it in their Constitution that no one
would be a slave, neither to another person nor to the State, the Dragons
felt that they had proved that slavery was cultural, not innate.
Then when the Terran branch of humanity discovered a new form of space
drive and it’s offshoot weapons, the Dragons decided to give them some
relevant information about the interstellar treaty and it’s non-interference
clause.
Then they ordered a whole lot of popcorn.
