To address a few points brought up over the weekend:
This is supposed to be entertainment, don’t take it too seriously.
Half of the time I don’t know what I’m talking about, but it sounds good.
The cannibals have always “been there”, just not a major part of the story, they inhabit
a large area south of the Legion, and are spread out. They don’t exist purely on human
meat, but they won’t waste any that comes along.
They were first mentioned when the Legion wanted Zukkeroid to run, I haven’t needed
them since.
One reason that they attacked now is that they’re getting low on weapons and ammunition,
notice how few of them have rifles? They brought their two RPGs because they’ve noticed
the Dragonflies buzzing around lately, but don’t realize what bad news they are.
They have no outside support.
They didn’t have to move cross country, they’ve always been right there to the south. But the
terrain is so rough, and they’re so spread out, and the Legion so many things to do in areas
where the Empire is currently expanding, that the Legion hasn’t been able to clean them out yet.
They came from dispersed areas in small groups, so the Dragonflies wouldn’t have been effective,
even if the pilots had known they were coming.
Etc, etc.
BTW, this storylne is about to jump ahead of the space storyline by a few days/weeks soon.
ok.. suspend belief .. got it.. 🙂 tho i am a bit of a “gun purest” ,, i really hate guns portrayed poorly.. IE: hollywood’s never ending mag. or the “Assault weapon”.. in reality there was only one…
also ,, dragonflies effective,, this is when they would be most effective.!! look at any of the mini, GAU, or vulcan gun cams…
” 🙁 ohhh wait, i was thinking at range, at range a 1 second burst would cover 20 x 20 feet,, at less than 50 feet = less than 6″ dispersion… soooo never mind.. 🙁 ”
that said,, need to add a switch, to slow rate of fire for close ( really close ) fire… cuz yeah,, 20+ bullets per target at close range….
Isn’t the GAU 37mm? I think it’s a lot larger than the ones on the Dragonflies.
I never cared much about weapons that I couldn’t easily carry around. They’re cool,
but not something I needed to care much about.
really late reply : no. there is no GAU in 37mm. if there is , it is not US. an not multi-barrel..
GAU = Gatling Autocannon , Gatling Automatic , or ,A/C gun pod,= Gatling Auto Unit..
you have : GAU-8 in 30mm,. GAU-12 in 25mm,. GAU-13 in 30mm “is ship mounted.”,. GAU-17 (M-134) is 7.62 x 51,. GAU-19 is .50 cal,. GAU-21 (don’t belong on this list.!) is a A/C modified M-2,. GAU-22 is a 4 barrel GAU-12 (25mm) ,. and the Vulcan M-61 in 20mm..
so. the two on the Dragonfly’s would be the GAU-19 (.50 cal) and most likely the GAU-12 (25mm)
Oh, and you finally get an explanation as to why the slaver Captain was
so obsessed with Chirk that he’d take the freighter through a wormhole
to what he thought was Dragon territory.
I’m surprised that none of you questioned that seemingly dumb decision.
I just figured he was such a world (galaxy?) class dick that he was bound and determined to get Chirk back no matter what. Also, those fighter craft CAN’T be cheap. Probably cost as much (if not more) than a “blue on blu” would bring in.
The story has taken a strange turn, hasn’t t?
I really didn’t expect it to go here.
It was supposed to be a story about four teens in a post-
apocalyptic world.
Looks like I was wrong. This is an attempted stealth mission to lift out willing Catians as a “fine” without letting the humans on this side know they are at war. Nice cover, hope it works. Six months is a long time to give a technologically superior (save in the area of gravitics) and numerically superior enemy to prepare. If the dragons were willing to trade their stealth technology for the Empire’s gravitics, or something similar, diplomatic missions could be sent to all the OTHER human nations on this side (We now know there are multiple such per planet, and multiple planets) to say “You did not attack us and are not our enemy.” Probably hours before the assault on Catia begins. It might get them to hold off joining the one nation the Empire IS at war with until they realize they’ll have to give up their Catian slaves too. Then hit the biggest one remaining and the others MIGHT give them up without a fight. And it’s possible the Catians are wrong and not ALL human nations hold Catians in slavery — we know there are or were abolitionists among Bushear’s nation.
And I think most of us assumed the captain expected to be treated as a non-hostile ship in foreign “waters”, escorted perhaps but at worst ordered to retrieve his tac ships and leave, not be attacked. Is there no trade among the various sapient species?
Well, The other races trade among themselves, but they all abhor slavery and the humans who take slaves.
So a diplomatic/trade mission would be unwelcome. They have no reason to differentiate between Humans and Terrans.
By the universal treaty among all races, the slaver Captain was within his rights to pursue a criminal into Dragon territory,
but everyone knows that the Dragons are pretty arrogant.
As to what happens next, well…

You cannibals remind me of the stories you were working on when I first began watching you.
