When I taught high school, I told the students, especially the girls, never to get serious about anyone who said they hated cats. What they hate is the cat’s independence and their inability to control it. If they can’t stand it in a pet, they sure won’t tolerate it in a significant other.
I’m not a fan of cats only because many of them I’ve dealt with
are needy, demanding, and controlling. Same with women, I get
frustrated when all I am is a “hunny-do” minion or the head pet-
machine/rub-oligist. That’s not independence, that’s a needy
dependent. My wife learned that pretty quickly, but in her current
situation, she has to do it. Our cat however has not. It’s like if
she uses her cat box, she’ll sit next to it at and literately yell at
me to scoop it even if I had just put in fresh, or claw me if I stop
petting her most royal hinnie…
