Ah yes logistics… gotta love ’em… NOT!
Heh, well if anyone can help, it’s Sam.
I had a hunch, once the bullies knew it would hurt if they
started with me, they moved on to others. I don’t see why
they would need the FTL ships for like the Troll’s system,
but there are several that are members or friendlies that
the core might think they can turn them back to their side.
We all knew at some point the core / Motha was going to
need a good and swift kick in the tail,
I just hope the loss is minimal.
I suspect they are aware of the futility of invading a system
through a WHJ. It would effectively be impossible.
Ships must come through singly file and depending on velocity
of transit there i s that nasty period of down time as your
crew recover from the transit. I’m just a poor former Zoomie
but even I know enough about an armed assault to know
defending a WHJ would not be difficult. An “Horatio at the
bridge” or “300 Spartans” situation comes to mind. A WHJ is
a natural choke point and choke points favor the defender.
bullies Don’t like change.! so,, they would as a show of force,
hit a few of the “I don’t know” crowd/planets with the old ships,
Then hit the nay sayers with the FTL. and swarm the WHJ
points when they go to help the nay sayers…
Like any proper bully, they will expect that a big show of force
will bring the “rebels” (in their minds) to heel. Just warping into
a system instead of using the WHJ should, to their way of thinking,
cow any “upstarts”. They do not know that the Empire and allies are
aware of their FTL capabilities.
Think about it. Two systems which are “adjacent” via WHJ (only a
single jump away) would not necessarily be adjacent in space. I
figure the Core fleet will get as close as possible via WHJ jumps
before making the last leg via FTL. That makes them predictable –
at least to a degree. That means Imperial/allied forces can
concentrate on the most likely avenues of advance.
I would have my forces heavily stealthed to make the enemy think
they had achieved surprise. Then when they let their guard down I
would throw everything INCLUDING the kitchen sink at them.
Bullies hate surprises. They also hate to take a punch.
Whatever happens, things look to be getting interesting very soon.
two things to consider,, 1) if the core FTL ships are that expensive
to run,, they are going to a one an done, show of force.! or, they
are going have two drives, and be a ungainly pain in the ass,!
(IE: put two warp drive nacelles on the ‘Millennium Falcon’.)
2) size.! are these ships so big, thats why they use so much fuel,.
or.. IF they used standard hulls.. what did they replace.?? no ship
i know of ever had a different type of engine replacement, without
a major overhaul.! (IE: replace a four-cylinder block in a Pinto
with a large block V8.! you replace or rebuild everything ,,
firewall forward.!)(including the firewall.)
kitchen sink – going back to the “Gravitic Mine” idea.
mine all the obvious jump points,. BUT have them wait
for a signal,
so you don’t get allies or you can warn them.
then arm your ships with missiles that have a gravitic
mine war head, SO you can disable the FTL ships
without destroying them…
Bullies always target the weak and unable to defend themselves,
plus they don’t understand the Empire’s take on caring for their
allies and friends. They’ll pop in expecting little or no defense, and
see 2 – 3 frigates and a destroyer bearing down while spitting
tobys like watermelon seeds… I just hope they are wearing the
right pants! They can’t understand that taking precautions like
that is practical or cheap, they want to think the IMM is just like
Motha. “Defense? HA! It’s too costly, if you want it, pay for it
yourselves!”
Maybe……coated springy wire earpieces….
Instead of curling down over the ears like hoomans…
The wire earpieces curl UP from underneath the Catian ears,
then over the top.
At least, that’s the way I would design it to start.
(Adjustments and re-designs would come later as needed)
(I’m an engineer at heart, without the schooling)
Catain’s cheek bones are much more pronounced than Terran’s,
and their ears are very sensitive, it could be a simple band
around the back of her head, or a shaped ear piece that holds
firmly. In either case, I’m sure they would need regular
adjustments or they’d fall off. Terran ears are almost a straight
shot back while even apes have their ears much higher, making
our ear pieces worthless. I’ve seen glasses made for dogs and
horses, a cat wouldn’t put up with anything on their face.
House cats have much shorter muzzles than the Catains do.
I thought about those, but they don’t work well if you’re riding,
I tried a pair once, all I had to do was raise my eyebrows and
they fell off. A “whoa!” moment and they are gone.

Been seeing it for years, but just noted it:
How does Miral hold her glasses on?
They don’t sit on top of her ears like on humans.
like I always told the kids when they
asked why my beard sparkled –
“It’s Magic.”

there are frames that rest on the nose.
see Morphius from the Matrix movies.

Pop rivets?
Ouch! That’d leave a mark!!
