I can relate to that, after I had to quit riding, it was VERY hard to relax!
Even after I recovered and got back to work, I was always worried about
a call in, what project I had to deal with at work, not to mention fire calls…
Nothing is more relaxing than getting on the road on two wheels and
watching the world go by. Or getting on the dirt bike and go exploring.
To be fair, the Cats can’t wear headgear.
Okay, technically, they could, but it would be severely uncomfortable
and distracting.
And I am using several generations of figures in this comic, but don’t
have helmets that fit all three.
For example, Minka is Genesis 3, Jonathan is Genesis 2, and the Cats
are Genesis 1. Teresa is Genesis 1 and Kathy is Genesis 2, which is
why they never wear the same clothing.
I figured that. And I am not a boor about it. But I have seen some gosh awful
injuries from not wearing a skid lid. Regarding Paul’s comment, I remember
when a young Airman and his pretty wife wound up face down on the pavement
in downtown Wichita. He was in shorts, sneakers and a T-shirt. She was in short
shorts, halter top and flip-flops. Neither had anything on their melons. The guy
was braking and hit an oily patch. Instant bike dump and both wound up
unconscious face down on asphalt on a 105 degree day. At least a skid lid with
a full face bar would have saved their faces. I guarantee she never wore shorts
again for a very long time. Brrr. Hurts to remember.
I get the risks, but I rarely wore one until they made it a law.
The only time I wore one was when I tried my luck at ice racing,
mainly because you WILL dump the bike on ice. I even slid
under the snow bank once and had to be dug out! THAT was fun…
When I rode I wore one – full face type – religiously. I was on the first
Motorcycle Eval Team in the USAF. When people would ask me about
what helmet to buy, my stock response was, “$5.00 helmet for a $5.00
head.” Most got the message.
That’s what I wore when they made it a law, full-face. I learned
off-roading that a stick, clump of dirt, an unexpected branch HURT.
So when I had to wear one full time I dropped $65 on a good one.
matched my SS color scheme too. That, and the time me and 2
other guys had to rescue the Yamie rider from a clump of brier
bushes he ran into, 1 1/2 in long thorns went right through his
fancy racing leather’s… Racing, NOT off-road… I was 14 at the time
and had a lousy Sear’s modded 100 from Italy.
Me, I ALWAYS wore a full face helmet when I rode.
I just have a hard time believing how many are riding
without even a half helmet! Of course, here in Oklahoma
we seem to have what appears to be a disproportionate
amount of terminal motorcycle accidents.
By time I had saved up enough to get that SuperSport, it was the law.
plus I figured how bad a set of bruises I got riding trails and off-road
I could only guess what a stone at 80MPH would feel like.
I’ve always figured that those who ride without helmets
don’t have much to protect up there, and maybe the rest
of us shouldn’t interfere with evolution.
Actually, it’s Jonathan. That’s a Ural 2-wheel-drive, max about 130kph.
But it’s built like a tank…
(Not really. It doesn’t need a complete overhaul every 3000 km or so.)
Chira’s scooter is grav drive, so if she doesn’t turn the governor off, it’s
max is about 160kph. Without the governor, it’s speed is limited by
the tires max rating. Yes, it’s been wind-tunnel tested.
The customs are good to about 160kph before they get too hard on the arms.
Zorri? Mavia’s had her up to 270 kph.
I had wondered about that, those grav drives have so many uses!
Like car races, a set under the car for traction control and 2 in the
front and 1 rear, there’s no limit on how fast they could go! Think
the Indy 500 only 10 miles long. Top speed would be like Mach1!
I had wondered what ever happened to those cars and the designer,
I remember the second one, I thought that spoiler was a great idea.
How odd decades later, the spoiler is a standard on any performance car…
There is a brand of motorcycle out there that looks just like a scooter,
but the engine can go up to 650cc. It was my son’s idea to try and
get me back on a bike, sadly a few attempts I made with a 250 Honda
showed me my balance is shot. I believe that is an electric, so just like
the Tesla cars, I’m sure there’s a “sport mode” she can use 😉
That panel 4 shot reminds me of the hodge-podge bunch I used to ride with,
My supersport, a “not-harly” (long story) a 125 Yamaha, a Kawasaki 250, and
his brother on a Kawasaki 70… ALWAYS bringing up the rear. “Hey guys, wait up!”
heh…
Zeeka’s a smart kid, I suspect she had doubts about the core’s propaganda
to start with. Pictures and a few words with adults not controlled by the core
sealed the deal for her, I hope the rest will bounce the same. It’s like with
the cats after they were freed, the adults couldn’t deal with the idea at first,
much less the Imperials NOT being slavers.

I hope Taritha also emphasizes the flip side of settling on a new world…..
building your own house, cutting trees, plowing & prepping a garden,
raising and slaughtering animals…all the pioneer stuff that you and I
read about our 200+ years ago ancestors settling a virgin land.
But the results will be worth it.
I know pioneering is hard work, but if she’s like the rest of them, they
will in just a few years be able to relax and enjoy the fruits of their labor!
I don’t know about anyone else, but to me, nothing is more satisfying
that to work hard and then look at what you’ve done. I did have such
a sense satisfaction like I did when I hit the start button and the
machine I was working on would start up and run like it should, rather
than just “ok.” Sure in a pinch I’d just get it working, but I would make
sure there was a work order put in to fix it right the next weekend.
With the right parts ordered.
Aha! I was thinking Mavia would be riding the cycle with Minka in the sidecar.
Obviously didn’t see Jonathan, nor Zorri. Sneaky, PC. Sneaky.
Did I miss something? Why does Minka have to get away.?
I don’t remember any trauma, personal or otherwise.
Minka probably needs to get away because she is a
workaholic and is in strong need of a break.
I can relate to that, after I had to quit riding, it was VERY hard to relax!

PS Minka needs goggles.
Actually they all need skid lids. Leathers and chaps are okay but
you always need to protect your melon. I’ve see the result of not.
Ain’t pretty.
You’re right I forgot the cranium covers.
Don’t you just love to see riders in shorts and sandals.

With their dense bones, I don’t think a cat would need a helmet.
Jonathan and Minka should wear one though.

I know $65 doesn’t sound like much, but I’m talking about the early 80s.
Today that helmet starts at $450.
When I bought my last bike I bought a Fullmer Falcon.

I’m seeing that building in panel #4, and trying to decide: Inception, or Doctor Strange?
And that’s My totally random take today.
Cat house.
Cat Manor. Not to be confused with the other meaning of “cathouse”. 😉
You didn’t get the joke.
Unless that scooter is majorly souped up, I’m guessing Chira sets the pace.
