I met the surgeon who will be working on my eye. Damn! She is
YOUNG! If I was working in a C-store I’d card her for sure!
But then at my age everyone looks young. Right guys?
I hear ya, my cancer doc was in his 30’s and that made me nervous
but he was smart enough to talk to his peers and they all came up
with a working treatment plan or I’d be on dialysis now. I still call
both my sons “kiddo” even though they are 33 and 35, they don’t
like that, so they call me “pops” heh.
Yeah wild field rat is VERY gamey, corn fed? Maybe not. I wondered
how they figured it out and caught him, damn back-stabbing cowards!
Might be a P’teran ship, that would be SOP for a ship with their stealth.
Still, better safe that sorry, makes me wonder though, if the core hasn’t
made some kind of statement about the P’teran actions during the whole
time on Xanadu and Taritha’s visit to P’tero. Could be this was a P’teran
ship to warn Captain Te’gin If so, hold onto your seats gang!
It’s about to get ummm… Messy? And loud, so very loud!
I’d say even poisonous, all the household chemicals that people
wash down in the sewers. Not to mention the illegal dumping
that goes on, I watched 2 guys in a garage truck dump a 55 gal
barrel into a sewer drain when I was a boy. Looked like mostly oil.
I suspect Glass is about to talk about the issue of not having trustful squad members.
That would be a huge issue during an extended ground war/battle! All those guys did
was cover their own asses and betrayed their squad leader. Personally,
I would of shot them myself! I hope they get expelled.
It could be he proved his point, and the class will be continued with a few changes.
Like testing new students for trustfulness and being able to carry out assignments.
I was re-reading the chapter on when the grasseaters and the P’tera met the Cats,
(949) They called them the “hornies,” I think that was a better name for those asses!
Anyway we haven’t met all the races that oppose the Empire, I won’t lie, I’m very
interested in seeing them. the hornies are timid and easily manipulated, the shitbats
are aggressive, and the hammerheads are somewhere in between, possibly semi-friendlies
in time. that leaves 2-3 more core races we haven’t met yet,
and I worry what THEY are like.
Just about everyone, actually. To varying degrees of effectiveness.
The Pterans have the best, the Empire the worst. Although at the ranges
in this situation, it doesn’t really matter.
No one else, for example, could have gotten as close to the Pride as the
Arctos did in http://thegentlewolf.net/comic/tgw-990/
Research allocation depended on perceived need, the Ptero saw the
greatest need, being the intelligence gathering arm of the Core. The
Empire saw the least need until they began building their Navy and
exploration ships. So they’ve been behind the curve.
Yes, but the Empire is catching up, fast! No one seems to have a stable
AI’s or “Artifolk” as they were called in other media, much less the
grav engines or weapons. The Catians are more into stealth, as are the
Bunnies, than Terran’s. Any ambush predator would love to be able to
walk up and take their prey. Both the Catians and the P’tera are such,
but they aren’t afraid of a standup fight either!
I’m sure, with all the fresh minds from all the member races, Terra
will catch up and surpass them all at some point. I remember when
the grav drives were introduced, to think some under-funded Russian
group came up with it, with little more than the basic tech labs.
And what ever they could scrounge up to work with.
Remember, most of Terra is still not part of the Empire. Although
there are kingdoms in both Americas, Europe and Asia. Not sure
about Africa or Oceania. It’s only other worlds and species that
are all-or-nothing, and maybe only so far. We don’t know for sure
how united the Leporids are, for instance.
I know, that’s why I was including the other races. I figured pre-fall there was 8 billion
people on Terra, after the fall I’m sure many millions died, many more afterwards, due
to the usual issues of disease, hunger, raiders, and border wars between factions. A
great many good people that could of helped were wiped out, and the survivors aren’t
interested in tech advancement, just survival.
Years later because of the evil some did, no one trusts anyone they don’t know, so it’s
going to be worse than getting new members from the other races off-planet. Jerico
was created with all that in mind, so it’s people were the best and brightest King could
find before the fall, or it would have been no better off than anywhere else.
I’d say the only other kingdom that can claim to be a rival to the Empire would be what’s
left of China, and they haven’t as yet, figured out how to have a space fleet, much less
anything else as the Empire does.

You don’t, unless you have a background in psychology. I’m saying they need to DO
a psych exam to each student in any type of spec-ops, for the very reason Wilson
was caught! Suppose you were on a mission to a real enemy and as soon as you
turned your back one or more ratted you out to save their own hides! “I needed you
to keep an eye out for the enemy!” “I’m sorry! I got scared and ran!” then the guns
go off and you’re limp, tied to a post, bleeding. It’s a trope that’s done to death in
TV and movies, but I’d heard stories from guys, including my father, about losers that
defect or just run and hide leaving their own people to that kind of fate.

Field rat is gamey, urban rat is greasy and unpleasant tasting,
corn fed rat is as tasty as anything else, just different.
Maybe so but if it’s okay with you guys I’d just as soon not find out.
HEH! I don’t blame you at all! I would if I had NO other option,
squirrel is a bit better and slightly easier to catch than rabbit.

How many people have stealth capabilities?
I was under the impression that only the P’terans.

The empire also got started in space quite late, comparatively.
Not necessarily the entire empire, but certainly the Terran part
of the empire.

When you’re young and students, how DO you
determine the trustworthiness of your fellow
students/soldiers before a mission, stealth or overt?
