Nice ’55 Chevy model there, PC. My folks had one when I was in 5th grade. Nice 2 door hardtop.
Unfortunately my Mom, sibs and I were still living in Lubbock while Dad was working out of
Odessa (OTR trucker) and would drive up when he could. One trip he fell asleep and rear ended a
truck hauling pipe. Peeled the roof back almost to the back seat totalling the car. Fortunately
Dad’s head was slumped forward and the pipe missed his head. Otherwise He would’ve been
decapitated. Not sure how my life would’ve gone growing up without a Dad. Would’ve been
different for sure. He wasn’t the best Dad by a long shot but I still miss him. Seeing that car
brought back memories. I vaguely recall our car was yellow and white where PC’s model is
red and white. They were awfully fond of 2-tone paint jobs back in that era.
I understand how you feel, I’ve been a chevy man since the early 70’s
but My father was in love with this little, ugly ’59 Volvo 544, got it not
6 months before I was born and kept it going despite getting front
ended and and rear ended. I was doing bondo and welding before
I knew how to drive! LOL He actually, when it was time to rebuild the
engine, had it balanced and made his own intake manifold to put a carb
off a slat 6 cylinder Chrysler on it and was pulling wheelies with it! I
remember my mother’s screaming to slow down while I was giggling
in the back seat hehehehe….
Here’s what it looked like:https://hagerty-vid-images.imgix.net/vehicles/Volvo_PV_544_.JPG_pic5.JPG.JPG?auto=format%2Ccompress&h=500
My father had collected many of them for parts over the years,
from a ’54 (I think it was a 444) with a dinky 1.4 liter motor
all the way up to a ’77 242, that one I got stuck driving for a
while, the charge system was screwed. After the last wreck he
had with is first one in ’77 he had to give up on it a truck had
slid into it’s rear and crumpled it so bad there was no saving it.
Fun fact, the ’57 to the ’60 models you could swap out the tires
and rims (narrow 15″ rims) for the 14″ ford rims, much wider rims
that greatly improved traction!
Still a sweet ride though! My first one was a ’65 Chevelle with a crappy
194 ci straight 6. I was going to drop a 327 in it but the front seat took
out most of the floor going over some tracks.
So much like my white-over-red ’56 Chev Bel Aire 4-door (ages ago).
It had Powerpac (4-bbl and dual exh), and a non-stock rear end
(somewhere shy of 4:11 tho) – would only top out at 90 mph –
But did out drag every. Ford. Motor. Company. product.
she faced – Incl ’56 Merc Marauder.
Even took a ’56 Stude Golden Hawk by a length, when it only used
Super and Drive, like the 2-speed Powerglide trans I had.
Thanks for the memories.
😀
If Taritha was to bond with a dragonfly she’d has at least
a terrain lifespan if not more. Not my call just saying….
This might be an issue for the P’tera and many of the feudalistic
societies in the know space governments, it goes against every-
thing they believe in, “it must be our special bloodline to rule”
which is where many of the problems that type of government
comes from. Spoiled kids, raised to know they will rule one day,
never try to learn what it is to be a true leader. Earn the right,
not expect it!
It’s been mentioned several times since the Catians were
first introduced, they have roughly 45 years give or take.
Since both the Terrains and the friendly humans have started
to work on extending their lives they might make it to 60,
but that’s still much shorter than a human would.
I may be misremembering or misinterpreting, but I thought Teresa’s expected
extended-for-a-Terran lifespan had more to do with the “dragon spirit” she
inadvertently stole from Kajm than her bonding with Dagger.
Now that she’s an official envoy, she might be read into a state secret like this, IF
there is a need. Which at present there isn’t and no one “in the know” present to
do it anyway. She might know about the healing ability, but not the other ramifications,
like strength and reaction speed to rival hers, if not Kathy’s, and enhanced senses.
It’s the bonding with the dragonflies that does it: http://thegentlewolf.net/comic/tgw-067/
Kathy has a relative that’s not blood related who
has lived 200 yrs that’s bonded.

I never thought much of the idea of a ‘cycle cops on wide
open road, short of shooting the driver there’s little they
can do to stop a car. I lost track of how many times when
I was riding someone would brake-check me in traffic.
You’d be surprised how many people think a bike can stop
as fast as a car. And don’t get me started about the haters
out there for riders!
If they are forbidden from having their children be their heir and a
successor has to be chosen from the commons, then it’s irrelevant WHO
they marry, since their kid isn’t inheriting in the first damn place.
And it’s a sad sad ppl who think it’s improper for a woman to drive
if there are men in the car. The past wants their sexism back.
You make a very good point, I’ll have to change that so that children can
inherit titles. But it won’t be automatic. After all, if, say, Robert’s son turns
out to be unsuited for the duties of a Duke, he shouldn’t inherit them. I am
interested in your thoughts on how that can be best accomplished. Please
advise me on this.
I think that maybe they are the first on the list as replacements
rather than the only ones. Teach and help the kids to learn what
the job means and who they are doing it for.
Maybe a competition, that way you can see who is going
to work for it and who’s going to fight dirty or cheat to win.
When they are old enough give them tasks Like the Wolf Pack
had in the start, to see who is best suited to think on their
feet and to make decisions that doesn’t make things worse.
i think… the kids are ‘temporary heir’ IF something happened suddenly..
IE: like the VP takes over for the prez.. BUT continue the tradition, of
picking the next spot.. so as NOT to have ‘grooming’ for the next in line.
and the titles only “Exist” when in office.! so you don’t have the ‘kids’
saying “I”m the Dukes kid, so you gotta do what i say.!” example: we
heard nothing from Kings kids,. because all they were was his kids..
Likely best that they prove themselves through military or some other public service.
The more humble the service the better, but for a minimum.of three to five years.

Oh crap, you had to remind me how old I am.
Got older, but haven’t grown up yet.
My brother had one a 67 I think.

Could be the length of life for a Catian is largely due to how they’re treated by Humans
Cats are created ,, genetically modified humans.
the creator gave them short life spans..

I doubt if Taritha is even aware of that, but if she is she has no reason to
share the information with anyone else.
