The covert op should get the target locations for an orbital

I agree, they deserve nothing less than a dump truck-sized
care package from the belt. “God Rods” might do the trick
but if they are dumb enough to cluster all their military assets

Hmm… “Zeus bolts” might be more fitting… naa spoke it out
loud, god rods are better.
Tungsten carbide two meter long by 20cm wide rods accelerated
to Mach 25 impacting through about 200 km of atmosphere should
hit in the megaton range. That should discourage further
“Antisocial” behavior.
I agree with you about orbital bombardment but I think it should be precisely targeted. A couple of
dozen well placed #8 rebar (1″/25mm diameter weighing just over 16lbs/7.5 kilos) dropped from
200 klicks up would send a strong “Nemo me impune lacessit” (No one provokes me with impunity)
message. Most state capital buildings are arranged similar to the U.S. capital. It would be simple
to target the CSA presidential palace and the rotunda of their capital building. The Empire could even
drop leaflets warning of the attack to reduce loss of life therefor giving the Empire the moral high ground.
The Empire is very much a “don’t tread on me” organization. Unlike Dreamfox, I do not see the Empire
ever achieving (or even being interested in) world domination.

Maybe mutual trade and protection agreements
between like minded (i.e., freedom for all
citizens) kingdoms.
But then again, you have the Kingdom of Nepal
that WANTED to join the Dragon/Wolf Empire.
(again, like minded governments)
So, if the Empire can stand up to the core, they can make it an open
alliance, opening another front the Core is not prepared for.
Meanwhile It is going to be interesting how united the core really is.
As for the Johnnies…
Do they really not expect a response just because the Empire has
not eliminated any opposition, active or passive, from orbit?
Antagonizing a small, but still interstellar Empire?
It seems the Empire should put up more news on what they are
doing in space. In this case especially the part of where the
Catian’s retrieved every stolen body part of their people.
And the pilot’s comrades in arms also retrieved the the body of that
President and of the chain of command that ordered that action, or
were responsible for the atrocity, and laid waste to all who attempted
to stop them. The Johnnies acted dishonorably. Consequences.
Consequences well thought out with that enemy being forced to die for
their country, or just die, and anything down to zero casualties for
the Empire being the goal. Death is possible, not inevitable, nor
sought after in engagements.
These guy’s are like Ryder’s bunch, they think they can do what they want,
when and to who they want, and get away with it because “they are too
smart, strong, and brave to mess with”. I think Teresa is reluctant to bomb
from orbit simply because there’s too many innocents mixed in with the
“bad smell” types, hence the covert op.
There are more reasons not to go with the orbital bombardment.
After all, the world is still rebuilding and it does not look like any
power on earth can stop the Empire. Not with the resources and
allies they already have and still make in space. In the long run?
The Empire is probably take over the entire planet. So they would
have to clean up the damage they did themselves.
Also in the long run, the Empire will be more stable if people join
of their own volition and only conquers when attacked. In the latter
case the people of the conquered region will probably want their
current regime gone anyway and welcome the prosperity the
Empire offers.
Most of the world is a mess, what wasn’t nuked has been
ravaged by the desperate or power mad thinking there’s
no one to stop them. Plus the ones that just want to have
everything handed to them.
The Empire isn’t intending to take over the planet simply
because that’s not what they wanted, ever. The Emperor
just wanted to protect what was his and those he cared
about. Once people seen how well the Empire was and
how happy the people are they wanted to join.
Sure, The Empire could easily take over the world, but it’s
not what King and now Teresa wants, “sure you can join
but only if you follow our laws” which is the problem. Most
don’t.
The CSA and other kingdoms no doubt are thinking that because
the Empire isn’t attacking them that they are weak or scared
of them so they get braver and take risks like this atrocity and
just like the Taliban it’s going to take a serious retaliation to make
them think twice. Even then sooner or later they’ll try again.
If the Empire can prevail against the Core, it will take
over the world. It’s just a question of time.
It doesn’t matter if the people want it or not. Neither
side has really a choice in it.
The conflict with the Core will make the Empire’s equal
or superior to that of the Core.
As the interstellar Kingdoms build up their populations
and industry the Empire’s resources, even with fair
trade, will be far beyond anything any other power
on earth has. Any Kingdom joining the Empire will
experience a drastic raise in stability and resources.
Rebuilding will speed up to a level no one there could
have seen coming. Their neighbors will see and want
it. Their leader’s choice is to join or be replaced.
Chances are that the remaining countries will be
dictatorial in the extreme and either attack or
antagonize the Empire. Any remaining power will be
inconsequential.
Especially when the Empire gets the orbital farms
online and is no longer restricted by arable land.
Sure, a lot can happen that changes the equation,
but as the situation stands, the Empire will take over.
Even without any interstellar friends / members the Empire
should easily out-resource any other Group on Earth.
They’re the only ones who can easily mine Asteroids for
minerals, they have an unchallengeable Navy. They could
use their antigrav-tech for unlimited, no-cost energy …
Sadly what Queen Ann’gijn and most of the species in the core’s reach
are afraid of; retaliation. They still aren’t thinking they can count on
each other like the Empire does, it’s going to be the hardest thing to
teach all the races that want freedom from the core, that they have
to trust and rely on each other!
I’m sure they will, in time, but time isn’t something there is a lot of.
So the Empire has to keep trying and talking, in hopes of finding the
nudge that will turn the tide of fear.
It’s the Confederate States of America.
“Johnny Reb” was a nickname for the Confederate
soldiers in the American civil war, short for Johnny Rebel.
So… “Johnnys”.
I was just about to ask if that was the derivation. IMS Me is a European and thus unlikely to
be familiar with trivia from the War of Northern Aggression (civil war). When I read the
reference my thoughts went to CSA = “Johnnie Rebs” which could easily shorten in vernacular
use to “johnnies”. For reference I would direct Me to recall the British referring to Germans as
“jerries” or the French as “frogs” or U.S. troops referring to “krauts” or “japs”. Note: it is easier
(from a psychological point of view) for most people today to kill a “kraut” or a “jap” than it is to
kill another person. That is why the systemic eradication of undesirables (“Jews”, “Gypsies”,
“the unborn”) is always preceded by officially pronouncing them to be non-persons. Anybody
know what the Germans called allied troops? Or Russian troops called Germans?
I do know some of the jargon, and I’m actually
somewhat familiar with the facts.
But of course there’s probably a lot of references
and nicknames that I’ve never come across before.
Dehumanizing “the enemy” is a very old technique by the way.
One of the reasons Socrates had been accused (as well as
convicted and executed) for “corrupting the youth” was
because he’d made people question anything and everything.
Including military doctrine like “those
guys over there aren’t really human”.

About your WW II question: as far as I know Britons were sometimes
called “Thommies” (knowing that makes watching Tom and Jerry kinda
weird …). Amerikans “Amis”, obviously (which isn’t really
something negative in itself – just shortened).
I can’t recall any special name for Russians – aside maybe from
“Bolschewiken” – but that’s kinda just another term for “communists”
A very subtle slur (or maybe it’s just me being “woke” for noticing it?)
one that’s been frequently used by official media during WW II and is
sometimes heard even today, is addressing Nationalities or races or
general groups by the definite article (singular) like “Der Russe” or
“Der Amerikaner” or “Der Jude”.
You don’t actually say that being Russian or American or Jewish is bad,
but you kinda imply that they’re all the same. An army of living, breathing
American soldiers is reduced to an anonymous mass, defined only but that
one property – their nationality.
The Wolf Empire is participating in a war between Waukanda — a kingdom not part of the
Empire– and the CSA. The war was going on before Imperial influence spread there, when
Waukanda was raiding the Empire frontier brutally. The CSA shooting down the medivac
craft is one thing, perhaps not laudable but understandable. The treatment of the pilot, on
the other hand… Well, consider this: https://www.di.org/songbook/jacquesc.htm

But, in my old age, since I like my skin unbruised and my blood to stay within its bodily confines, I’m
willing to take a more surgical, precise, long distance approach……..snipers.

Nah. I’m still liking a clean, precise, surgical strike, take
out just the guilty ones, with a message to the population

Johnnies think about their current gubberment.
I agree with a clean strike but if you don’t take out all the leaders (including

and either join or get exiled.
Uh-oh the fits gonna hit the shan now.
Do the Johnnies know what they have unleashed?
Inside Tereasa’s head with a song???
I’ve got to think on this.
I have an idea on this but if I’m wrong, no big,
if I’m right, I’ll spoil it. I did kinda promise PC
