When I was growing up we had a cat that actually did that a few times. No shit. She actually chased dogs up a nearby tree that had a crotch just a couple of feet above the ground where small dogs – the barky kind – could jump up into it. The way she was marked she would blend into the grass in a monochrome photo and since dogs do not have color vision they could not see her if she laid down in the grass and kept still. She’d LET a dog chase her until she got into our front lawn. Then she’d drop down and lie still. When the dog relaxed she’d jump it and start carving it up.
She got pregnant only once but the litter all died within a couple of days After that she hated tomcats. Used to hunt them down and literally rip their balls off! She was also an exceptional hunter. She routinely brought me squirrels and grackles. Once she brought me a sparrow, just laid it in my lap. When I started to get up the bird woke up, shook its head a couple of times and flew off. She used to kill mockingbirds. Yeah I know that’s a crime in Texas but mockingbirds can be a real pain. They like to harass cats and dogs. They dive on a poor cowering cat or dog, screeching as loud as they can and pecking and clawing at the poor beast. They will do this in flocks, going after the poor animal one after another. My cat had a solution for mockingbirds. She’d pretend to cower and get the birds accustomed to swooping on her. Apparently, she could tell where they were from their screeching and she’d jump up just before the mockingbird got to her and BAP! She smack the bird out of the air with one swipe of her paw. Funniest thing you ever saw – a mockingbird trying to stop dead in mid air! Of course this would just make the flock of mockingbirds mad and pretty soon another would start swooping on her. In a couple of BAP! Another dead mockingbird. It was fun to watch. Downside was that after the other mockingbirds flew off I’d have to go out and pick up the dead birds and take ’em to the trash can back in the alley.
Her name was “Footsie”. Ask me nice and I’ll tell you how she came to have that name. There’s a story there, too. Also a funny story about a cat we had named “Prince”. You’ve doubtless heard of dogs named “Prince” but I doubt you ever heard of a CAT named “Prince”. 😉
My youngest has a cat named Tybalt — after the character in Romeo and Juliet and the one in the Reynard the Fox stories — Prince of Cats in both cases. That’s close.
We once had a cat who would dive-bomb birds from the air. Thought my wife was kidding ’til I saw it. She would perch in a tree and wait for one to fly under her, then hit it from above.
Our pit bull loves his cats and is very protective of them. And yes, HIS. He wins over any new one, puts up with its hisses and threats, and has it cuddling with him in less than two weeks.
Sometimes wise ass cats get their comeuppance, too. When we still had greyhounds (Rescued racers. Sweetest dogs you’d ever hope to meet.) There was a legend in the rescue society about a male greyhound nicknamed “horse” he was a sweetheart if ever there was one. Big devil. He RAN at 110lbs! For perspective the normal size range for a male racing is 65 – 75 lbs. Almost adopted him (wound up with a matched pair of red brindles I named “Duke” and “Duchess”. Lost them both in ’07 to cancer.). Anyhow, while he was in the foster home Horse never showed any interest in the family’s cats so they figured he was “cat friendly” (some aren’t. Some even have such a high predator instinct they cannot live in a home with small dogs OR cats) and used to take him for walks sans muzzle. Anyhow seems there was a neighborhood cat that thought he was cock of the walk – all that and TWO bags of chips. So the incident went like this. The couple is out walking Horse. The wise ass cat walks up and Horse stops. The cat reaches up and, “BAP! BAP!” smacks Horse on the nose twice in a fraction of a second. Before anyone – INCLUDING the wise ass cat – could react Horse reached down with his head and “CHOMP!!” bit the cat clean in two! Greyhounds have SERIOUS dentition and hugely strong jaws. Oh, and in my book the cat damned well got what he deserved. Seems he’d been pulling that trick of smacking dogs on lead in the nose for quite a while. Apparently this was his first retired racing greyhound. Takes some seriously fast reflexes to be able to run 40mph. A racing greyhound can outrun a horse for a short distance and they reach full speed in about 2 strides. Ever watch a video of a greyhound running. One of the most beautiful things on earth. A thoroughbred horse running is a thing of beauty but for my money nothing matches a greyhound in full stride. Proof of a Creator if ever there was one.
A friend of mine had a good sized cat that would wait on the edge of the alley-facing garage roof.
The across-the-alley dog would come over and start eating from the cat’s food bowl below the watching cat.
When the dog was focused on the food, the cat would jump off the low roof corner, land on the dog and “Hook on”.
The dog would cry out, wheel and head for home – heading back across the alley.
As the dog passed the nearby telephone pole, his cat would dismount onto the wooden pole and watch the dog go yelping home.
The next day, they would do it again . . . he said the dog never learned.
I’m still learning to 3d model. Took a break from trying to make something for PC and did something “out there”. A while back Scott Bieser (creator of another web comic I follow) did a story set in a universe where the Alcubierre Warp Drive actually worked. His drawings were of ring ships done as if Star Trek warp drive were based on Alcubierre’s work. I’ve been thinking about what ring ships based upon Star Trek ships would look like. Here is a Romulan War Bird done as a ring ship. Let me know what you think. I did learn a lot about 3D modelling from the exercise plus it was kinda fun. Let me know what you think. https://www.deviantart.com/bmullins3/art/Ringship-1-862535801?ga_submit_new=10%3A1606599168&ga_type=edit&ga_changes=1
Bill, that looks great. As soon as you get a workable model of the field medical module, I have a story line ready to go. (Looks like the package is delayed in transit. *sigh*)
Home owners association i only know from allotment gardens or
apartment houses with owner occupied flats. There are neighbor
fights about things like that in the comic though.
First panel, cat trees a dog? Third panel Giddee-up doggie. Yahoo or would that be Meeeow?

But… I thought those spurs were on their………………….

Looks great. Good job.

? studying ,, huh.?? tho most usually change as soon as they get home…
She forgets a fundamental fact of the universe. While dogs have masters (except in Kali), cats have staff.
