Two questions, kind of:
Who would you like to see a story built around?
What story would you like to see?
The Cat’s attempt at trade with the Aliens is coming up soon, but other than that, the schedule is pretty open.
I’ll email you with a story idea I’ve been thinking about, Lead cast is Mr. Pick, Kathy’s boyfriend (cannot remember his name) and Bill Wilson. Supporting characters are (at least) the Cat Mr Pick saved (Chirk??? DAMN! I am terrible with names), Kathy and Bill Wilson’s wife who everyone calls “Miss Vickie”. The story in a nutshell is that King sends his best “high tension thinkers” (the three main characters plus any others PC wants to include in the category) out to Jon Walkers place in the country with orders not to show their faces in town until they 1) come up with a better understanding of the science behind the grav technology, 2) come with new applications of said technology. For prototyping purposes King sends a newly developed metal-based 3D printer which can fabricate metal objects up to 18′ wide X 20′ long X 8′ high. I have some ideas of general story flow. Three possible titles “High Tension Thinkers” (Mr Anson’s term), “90% Perspiration”, and “Drips Under Pressure”.
The team assembles at Jon’s place with their associated female caregivers checking in on them in rotation because once those guys get to brainstorming they forget to eat, sleep, pretty much anything but work and without keepers they’d work continuously till they hurt themselves. Many good things come out of the effort.
Bill, you might want to consider gravitational accelerators, gravty levitation trains, gravitational compression systems, (primarily to create high density composition materials, the kind normally created through explosive bonding) gravitational deflection.field effects, to name a few ideas…
As I.seem to remember, don’t the gravity direction generators seem to produce more energy than they consume?
Making progress in learning to model. Spent a lot of yesterday (11/18) trying to round the corners on a box. Don’t laugh curves in CGI are actually something of a trick. Anyhow, with some help from the Anim8or community I think I have it down now. I at least can do what is pictured below. As always your comments here and at DA are appreciated. https://www.deviantart.com/bmullins3/art/Container-1-861639416?ga_submit_new=10%3A1605782084
Looks good. Add a door, and attachment points for power, comm, and HVAC and you’re pretty much there.
Don’t forget, you could actually make it a cruciform shape to clear the landing gear in the corners so that the pilot could set them close enough to be interconnected.
But what about the size? I haven’t heard back from you about scaling. How does it fit in a Daz Studio scene? Also, if you have one I would like a Wolf Empire logo or sigil. And what is your preference for colors? For the corners how about a nice basic bracket with a simple hole through it to put a hook or a line through?
Attachment points: how do you see them looking? Remember you are the visual artist, I am just the (shade tree) engineer who figures out how to implement things. Would a simple box suffice. Added detail takes time and effort to (figure out how to) implement.
Doors: At the ends or inset into the sides? Single or double (like on real shipping containers)? And what level of detain on the door hardware? At this moment I have no idea how to implement hinges but I “think” I could fashion something that would resemble a door handle if you don’t look too close. For that matter how much detail?
Did you look at that Viet Namese site I gave you a link to the other day? I really liked those modular buildings. They were very clean elegant designs. I can visualize modules that pop up and fold out to make modules 24′ (or 27′) wide by 20′ long by increments of 8′ high. I could give you models of buttoned up shipping modules, partially opened/assembled modules and exterior models of the setup modular buildings. I could also give you inflatable buildings with hard modules to interconnect them. Your vision is the driving creative vision. You decide what you want/need I try to implement them in 3D models. I think you are going to need a small crane and a forklift. The crane will be to lift full modules to set them in place. The forklift will be needed to move pallets around. But that’s only if you want to spend panels showing the Marines setting up a camp. No need for that unless it moves the action. Finished exterior models (if needed) and interior sets (where needed) should suffice. But you need to figure out what you are going to need to tell your story. Depending upon lead time I”ll do my best to make you the models. But You may have to either buy some things I don’t/can’t see how to implement or work around them. Do you know why Gene Roddenberry “invented” transporters? To avoid having to show shuttle craft going to/from the surface. 1) It would’ve necessitated time consuming and EXPENSIVE shots and 2) that would’ve slowed down the action.
Okay. So send me an email of how it “fits” now so I can get an idea of how to resize it. Quick screen shot will do. Windows key+PrtScn will copy what’s on your desktop to the buffer. Then you can paste it into a new image in paint or whatever. But I gotta see how it looks so I can tell how much to scale it up or down. Remember, we’re in the early prototyping stage here. Also, I’ll need to know which model is in the picture. Last one I sent you had two versions (.obj and .3ds) of the same model scaled 1 to 1 and 12 to 1. Gotta know which of the four is in the screen shot. For all I know .obj scales differently in Daz Studio than .3ds. I know they produce significantly different file sizes. Scaling affects resulting file size minimally if at all. File type makes a HUGE difference.
I suspect that the artist who created that model was inspired by the Skycrane. Now if I could convince PC to send me some screen shots of the test models I sent him actually mated to the Locusts I would be able to accurately scale them for him. Been sending him test models for days. {sigh} oh well.
Petercat, Bill: I have a slightly revised text of TDoE. I needed to make additions to a conversation in the final pages of the story. Do I resend the entire file? It seems easier….. or, I can just send the last couple of pages.
I’m with Catman. May have trouble with suggesting edits, though. I thought I had actually bought a copy of Word but either I didn’t or the license expired. I either have to use the online version of Office/Word or find a reasonably priced word processor/editor that can handle .doc files. I tried opening your other file in WordPad and got a shedload of shite characters.
Nice to know we’re all in the same boat. My gut feeling (as a former software test analyst) would be it’s either something to do with length (# of characters) or language filter. Many moons ago on a Flight Sim related message board the board censored certain words. As a result we were flying airplanes from a thingypit. “Rooster” was okay but “As the cock crowed” would come out “As the thingy crowed”. lol
i have to ask.! since it involves “Emails.”
since im here twice daily,, do you want me to watch for an move if they goto mod..?
just the known ones.. the unknown , i can let you know…

Most of that is already in the mix. I just have to write up a detailed story outline.
Catman. Check your email for my story writeup.

You’d have to size it to fit my Locusts, as the engines are larger.

Your Locusts look a lot like the Sky crane.

Resend the entire file is fine.
