So, is it just me, or is the sudden appearance of large party of heavily armed “cannibals” at the Dragon’s only Fortress and the command center of their “legionaries” just a bit off.
From my previous ex. Military Background, given the fact that this is set in a (we hope alternative) future, the likelihood of a large armed party attacking such a hard target is fairly remote. Even given the potential upsides.
As for attacking such a target that would most likely result in very high casualties for the attackers is even less likely.
Such a group would attack softer targets, either early morning or early evening, when they are less prepared and an easier target.
As for wanting the Combat Aircraft, unless they knew that they were going to be there, and when, then there presence, especially in such a large group is also highly suspicious.
Also, from experience, it takes a fair amount of food, clothing and shelter, as well as some basic training in field craft, to move such a large group across country, much less, to keep it hidden.
Then there’s the weapons and more importantly, the related munitions.
While we may consider that general firearms may be easy to come by, ammunition, in any decent quantity, more so stuff of the right type that is fit to use, is something else again.
Then we have to keep these weapons clean enough to fire.
Never mind carrying RPG’s and Ground to Air Weaponry around with you?
Also, the presence of such a large rogue band in the region would have been previously noted, if by nothing more than the mess and destruction left behind.
Unless they were freighted in from further away.
All of which suggests that they may well have had help getting there.
Which then suggests that somebody had to put up the resources (time, wealth and materials) for all of the above noted deficiencies.
This besides finding enough Low IQ savages to actually use as useful idiots and cannon fodder, on the off chance that a surprise attack might succeed.
Then we have the issue that anybody wouldn’t consider or even be worried about retaliation in force?
The Dragons still have enough tactical aircraft back at their base (Gunships) that they could stand off and simply do a small scale “Puff, the Magic Dragon” scenario on the insurgents.
So, who then is trying to knock over our Fledgling Empire and what’s their grand agenda?
Alternatively, who is this stupid?
NO. it’s not just you.. as i said yesterday,, Teresa with only one of her own… no this is a set up…
also.. with how many an how close the bad guys are, there will be ALOT more bodies… yes, the 20mm an .50cal are long range weapons,, but at this range it would be carnage,, just the concussion wave of the 20mm would flatten any within 50 feet..
oh yeah ,, “Puff the Magic Dragon.” they have 3 right there.. if they attacked with 300 they would be down to 100 by now… the bad guys did not have complete surprise,, the good guys had two guns firing before they cleared the tree line..
also,, from personally firing the M2 an the Barret , quite a few of the bad guys would be out,, screaming from the ruptured eardrums,, ( an possible bleeding eyes.) ,, the aircraft are only 18 to 30 feet away ,, well with in the 50 foot muzzle blast , (which would do that to protected ears, if in front of weapon..)
The Ma Duce is that bad? My son told me about how it will tear up a camel (and totally piss off its towelhead owner) as he found out during Operation Desert Shield/Storm. I would think just a couple of 7.62X51 miniguns would go like a scythe through ground troops. 20 mike mike on anything living is total over kill (but fun to watch, I expect). I expect it would keep killing anything down range for a good ways. I don’t figure a human body would even cost the round much velocity. I think the dumb f**ks would be better off facing real, live DRAGONS than a couple of dragon flies!
?? your son airwing? we had a guy in our command do just that..
and yes the m2 is that bad… they are firing GAU-19 s a 3 barrel ,50 cal gatling gun (21 rounds a second..).. the other is a 20mm m-61 vulcan (100 rounds a second..)..
just on a side note,, i set up a chrono on my Barrett,, an up to 145 feet the bullet is still accelerating ,, an more than half the time knocks over the chrono (with sand bags on the feet…)
an the m-134 minigun or GAU-17 (7.62×51 / 30-06) will cut a hummer in half,, sooo on ground troops…. an depending on the mount set up between 50 an 100 rounds a second…
