Kathy chose (or thought she was choosing) death rather than yield before. I think it is obvious who is playing whom.

Miral MUST be tired, or still not used to the awkwardness of heavy boots, to lose her footing like that.

I think the Colonel described their situation perfectly. Kathy did not use all her abilities. I think that for Miral it is likely a little of both hunger and boots.

Miral’s problem is fatigue, she hasn’t exactly been playing with a ball of yarn!

Yes and also predator species do not do/work long hours. Hunt, eat and sleep. Miral has been hunting and not eating with long hours. So she will be tired.

Cats normally sleep over 18 hours per day. When they exert themselves, they use enormous amounts of energy.

I thought that the genetic changes were mostly aesthetic plus some for sadistic pleasure.

There is some cross-over, like their life spans are much less than humans.
Their speed, reflexes, and stamina is closer to cats than humans, although
they do nap more than humans, but not as much as true cats.

I wonder how the Prince is able to get his head through a door. His ego is coming out his ears. I think he is in for a very great surprise.
